Implement Back Arrow (Parent Activity) - Android Studio Tutorial

Any idea how can I pass data from child activity to parent in this case?

Can you please help me? I've just implemented the code but the back button creates a new activity of the previous page.
So it doesn't pop the activity stack, instead, add a new activity of the previous activity. I'm so confused with that. Thank you.

The button creates well but when I press it , it goes out of the app, does not exactly close it but when i click on the app again i have to sign in again... Why is it not going back to main activity and just going out of the app? Any solution? I am frustrated.
