I like 3M. I knew a bunch of the things that you mentioned because I have worked in several industries that they make product for. Now I'm self employed as a reseller and 3m is always on my search list of things to aquire for resell or use in auto body work since I do that on the side.

I am not sure what to think anymore. I love 3M. Their products have saved thousands of lives, and assisted millions more. They made a really good masks that slowed down the spread of Covid, safety equipment, these awe-inspiring glass bubbles, a bunch of useful adhesives, and so much more. They have brought so much innovation to the many industries, and they have created thousands of jobs. Since they have created so much, they have probably significantly changed the world. For that reason, I used to idolize this company.

However, ever since the ear plug and the forever chemical incidents, I don't know what to think anymore. They may have saved thousands of lives, but they also ruined the hearing of our veterans, who were promised that they were effective. They have also filled drinking water with forever chemicals that cause harmful side effects. While they are planning to clean up forever chemicals, they can't fix the hearing of our veterans.

I love 3M. I hate 3M. Those two statements may sound contradictory, but that is how I feel right now. What am I supposed to think when a group is capable of doing so much good, a swell as so much bad?

I work for them. Not for long though. They are spinning our plant off. Everyone my dad went to school with that worked at my plant are all millionaires. My generation got screwed big time. Used to have free insurance and free stock. Lots of incentives. They truly were the best job in the region by far. Greedy executives and bogus law suits. (Ear plugs) hurt the workers way more than the company. Every vet I know says nobody wore ear plugs!

I don't know what happened to them, but i know for a little while they made ballistic vests and other types of body armor. They also make the glue that holds in windshields, as well as pretty much every adhesive you will find on a car, all of it is purchased from 3M. Its a boring company, but that boring stuff they make keeps the world turning

I had an economics professor who worked for 3M in the 70s and 80s. He had told the class that 3M, at heart an engineering/scientific firm, would host these unique company events. At these events, all persons were invited on the condition that
1. everyone attends this social event
2. every person would come to the event attempting to showcase their department's products/ideas differently that the product's intended design.
3. every person was told to socialize w/persons from other departments/design teams.
My professor said he was at the event when an engineer had stickied to his suit small squares of paper. The engineer had no idea the what to do with these sticky papers...the rest is history!!!

I used to work in Television. In the 80s and 90s we used a lot of videotape (1" and 2"). Much of it was Scotch brand (3M). As a longtime collector of LaserDiscs I know that they had a LaserDisc pressing plant in the U.S. (3M/Imation). They pressed commercial releases (movies and such) from 1985 to 1997. They also pressed Industrial and Promotional LDs as late as 2002. For example they pressed Promotional LDs for use in Disney stores in the U.K. in 2000, 2001, and 2002.

I didn't really do any deep searches but im not surprised its sold everywhere, i cant live witohut half this stuff myself and its for personal projects. As a 3rd generation 3M'er most of what you got here is dead on. Love it and I love the tone you delivered the information with! One of the other things that I always thought interesting was during the Great Depression 3M's stock was so poor that people used it to line their homes and business buildings as insulation. Years later people have found original stock paperwork in their buildings and found out that they had a bundle of money in their walls! :)

I work at an occupational health office. One thing we do is a test for how well your respirator is filtering air/sealing on your face.

We spray an extremely bitter liquid in the air, denatonium benzoate. If you can taste an awful taste, your respirator is leaking. 3M makes this stuff under the brand name Bitrex. Pretty sure they own the patent.

They make human skin , eyeballs , radar weapon detector , I delivered from there Jamaican warehouse in the early 2000 there Nothing that 3M does not make or should I say sell, they use robots, they sold there ware house that had 40 workers To the Chinese, who used only 2 workers , saving them million of Jamaican dollars, there's no end to 3M

I associate them most with sandpaper even though I am aware of all the things they make. If you've ever done any sanding, you will spend all of your time staring at the 3M logo.
