I love this game, I just wish there were more boss fights in the metroidvania part of the game.

The ninja is based off of a real ninja, because he's wearing blue , he's wearing a mask and we don't know his name. The only thing that is inaccurate about the ninja is stealth but actuality they're actually not that powerful but since they're fighting powerful demons it makes sense they have to get stronger so they don't die. Cuz real ninjas mostly sneak around they only fight if they get discovered and they'll retreat if it gets too dangerous like a smoke bomb, spikes to escape their enemy and that's it.

A Ninja they'll just retreat and not get killed they'll fight if they have to but most of the time they prefer not to fight also they're not that strong and fight an enemy if it's just one of them but there's a group of people they're getting the f*** out of there little smoke bomb.

How did it take you 55 hours? I almost wanna say its impossible unless you just kept playing after completing it and for some reason counted those hours. I did the platinum and the dlc in like 17 hours and I had to beat it a third time cause I lost my new game+ save trying to get the dark cave achievement.

I played this game long ago and it was so fun. The only thing I didn’t like was instant death traps. Other than that, this game was perfect.

Maaan, you had so few deaths on two playthroughs? I have finished it for the first time (with all seals of power and items :) ) and had more then 600 deaths :D But perhaps because playing it on keyboard is challenge itself and I would give a fortune for a gamepad at some moments (like when my computer was lagging a bit when I needed to do complex air jumping to get one of the seals). But I love this game, tight controls give this fluent feeling of movement and enjoyment in the same moment, knowing that when I can´t do something, it is not games fault, but my lack of skill which I just have to master and I LOVE the world, writing, mystery, overall feeling. And you can feel that this game has been made with love from every pixel, every note and every detail. I could not stop playing it until I have finished it completely - and there were moments I was cursing myself for needing completing it 100% :D But I have enjoyed it immensely. Great video!

After playing sea of stars and then learning about the messenger I am convinced this studio is going places and quick. I would love to see their rendition on the battle system that would play like a lunar game. After playing the messenger I found a good chunk of the music was inspired by donkey Kong country and dkc2. Everything from the pace of the floor to the water sections having a somber tone and changing to a warble in the water. It just seems very serene in its tone underneath the sharp notes that seam to hit front it's the melody in the background that gives me this thought.

I discovered The Messenger from being told about Sea of Stars by ChuggaAConroy of all people, and later finding the TV Tropes article. Now I'm fully invested in this universe. Can't wait for the next installment.

Bought this game a few weeks ago on sale since I recalled it being talked about, and I absolutely loved it! Just platinumed it last night

So, I started this game after getting the true ending of Sea of Stars, and only a few hours in I've had to catch my breath so many times with all of the lore connections and subtle ways these games truly feel like they're in the same universe, despite being completely different styles of games. It's really impressive

Had to wait until I got a switch to play it, wasn’t available on Mac. Glad you recommended it so hard I remembered. And I’m starting to slow down so I appreciate the tip that fresh things are around the corner, too!

I love this game, but I've only seen like 40% of it because I suck at kaizo platformers and can't beat that fucking tower on top of Glacier Peak.

55 hours over two playthroughs? .... How? I 100%'d the game + DLC in about 14 hours. First playthrough, mostly blind, didn't rush it.

Finally (almost, like one level left) done with the game, 5 years later, and i don’t think ive butt clenched, screamed, or bopped as hard as i have in a hot minute. It’s a solid game, and it’s worth your time. Thank you for the recommendation Jirard, despite many near deaths of my switch when i was going after power seals.

After being on my wish list for a long time, I finally bought it and played it. Wow! It's one of the best action platformer games I've ever played.
To me, it feels like it took inspiration from Castlevania, Megaman, and Ninja Gaiden.
I highly recommend!

I’ve been furiously playing through this game over the past few days to get hyped for Sea of Stars. The Messenger is without a doubt one of the most genuine and rewarding experiences with a video game I’ve ever had.

Im playing tiny thor right now. After that Im getting this game. Then in late august Im getting sea of stars. Then after that Im getting the remake of star ocean a second story. Then im getting the mario rpg remake. This is a good few months for me.

I only found out about this today after watching demos of sea of stars

I got this game on sale this year and I absolutely loved it! Got it on a whim and was surprised to learn this was made by the same team making the upcoming Sea of Stars game. Between how good The Messenger is and how nice the demo for Sea of Stars is, I'm really excited for the full release of Sea of Stars!

I am buying this on pay day for PS4 this week! I wanna play it so bad! I bought hollow knight last week so far so good when I get a chance to play but I wanna grab the messenger while on sale!

There is a new game + actually! With the expansion, there even is a "deal" that you can get when you play the new game +, if you've found all of the voodoo feathers and the mask pieces in the expansion

Replaying because of hype for Sea of Stars. Sabotage Studios is amazing!

This is why we all game, to feel this level of connection and passion. Loved watching this review and can’t wait to play this game that somehow went completely under my radar.
