A Simple Synthesizer that Simply Sounds Great // GRP Synthesizers A1 Review

coming back to say that i’ve owned this synth for about 6 mos and love it. for those who are still curious, i’d say it’s a mark above the doepfer dark energy synths and feels like a single oscillator boomstar. the sub oscillator reintroduces a balanced low end so it is more than capable of being your bass

How do you feel about this synth in comparison to the MS-20? I hear some gritty similarities

It has a unique sonic character. Reminds me of a Korg Monologue, with hints of a Reon Driftbox R, because of the super-fast FM/LFO rates that can get into weird territory.

Hey I recently found the video for the Chompi and am really interested in synths. It could be awhile until that is released and it's also going to be around $500 USD. I'm wondering if there is something else like that on the market right now? Very basic instrument that can record sounds via mic or line in (guitar, bass etc) then store and loop them together and some basic effects, doesn't have to be anything complicated. I was looking at the organelle but that is more then I need/want to spend. Thanks!!

It seems to be a multi-sampler with stackable FX, a built in looper as well as a tape speed dial and A clicky keycap keyboard. limited but creative!

Sometimes you just need a simple quality monosynth that does it's job well!

Neat sounding and looking instrument, this. Don't know what other kinds of desktop synths it could be compared to...

Good generous review. Definitely a "boutique project" in a crowded marketplace genre. I really believe, the bulk of the synth buying public, are to a large extent now, pseudo synth collectors - because many of us have quite a few. I think when you come in at this price point, no matter how good the sound or build, you are knocking out perhaps 65% of your potential buyers. I guess, maybe they just want to sell a few...

What a lovely sounding instrument. So nice to see a great little box coming out of Italy, who of course made some of the quirkiest but finest sounding synths outside the USA in the 1970's. I hope GRP sell a lot of these.

Really wish the patch points were on top, as soon as you have a few thing patched, it's harder to get to the controls, weird design choice. Sounds great though!

18db filter and sub osc should be good for 303 acid bass sound

Here’s an idea. Pair this with a Grandmother. Send this out to the “Noise In” of the Grandmother’s mixer and get a third oscillator without having to yeet your lfo. If you have the midi set up right (or if you use the gate out from the Grandmother) you could also use that envelope along with the lfos as additional modulation sources.

Damn it. I think I just talked myself into getting one and using it basically as a Grandmother expander

What a great synth idea. It would be nice if they doubled the size of the thing so everything isn’t crammed in but this is a very complete synth voice at a fair price

I like it but you can't even buy it at the moment. If they're going to let people review it, at least have some stock on the shelves. That in itself would put me off buying from this company.

Is the LFO auto synced with the triggering?

This might be the least synth for the money in its entire category. Spectacularly few features in a box that costs more than a taiga, microfreak, east beast and west pest pairing, neutron, or many other far more capable synths.

For $8 more on sweetwater right now, you can get an empress zoia.

The Moog Mavis is another budget-friendly alternative.

sounds lovely, but for that money I'd go for a used Elektron Analog Four mk1 instead

Sounds amazing and to my ears better and reacher tone than any other mono you have reviewed, it is more in the league of the Boomstar than uno or taiga.
Bo do you know how it is build the circuitry inside?
