It’s beginning to look a lot like empire
ОтветитьBrillant.
ОтветитьDo you have a source for the historical origins of Carthage? I'd be very interested in reading about it.
Ответитьbut did they wear top hats
ОтветитьAmazing podcast. I had chills finishing this one..
ОтветитьThank you love it form start to finish
ОтветитьWhen you hear that intro music, goosebumps

ОтветитьThe philistines, Tyreans, cartaginians aka Phoenicians were worshipers of Baal and Tanit. They were hated by there neighbors no mattwr where their ships took them because they sacrificed children to their evil gods. It is that aspect tbat is mentioned by all their enemies and it is that that made them so repellent to all and sundry.
They were a wealthy civilization but envy alone didnt make them enemies to all. Their retched sacrifices to their evil Gods are what spelled their repeated doom. Troy was but the first phoenician civilization to be laid low and i bet that the myceneans probably used their evil gods as the last but just reason to wipe them out.
I m sitting here waiting for epidode 18.
ОтветитьAbsolutely phenomenal work by your team as always
ОтветитьPhoenicians, the Masters of the Sea!
ОтветитьI wonder how people were dependent on fine things from certain part of the World. How global trade was. And how people had taste for fine things, how they appreciated it and paid for it and thus such cities were booming as opposed to how we buy cheap things from China, humanity de-escalated quickly. Nobody will write a book about container ships going to and forth from Europe to China or America. There is nothing poetic about it.
ОтветитьI was asleep and this came on. I always put history on to fall asleep.
ОтветитьThis was awesome - such a great work! 👏👏👏
ОтветитьSounds like that was controlling their population by culling their numbers to maintain equilibrium. No wonder thay were sucessful.
ОтветитьSounds like shaving your cattle and allowing the sun to sunburn them is bestest way to mark your cattle as branding them.
Ответитьwhat a true Gem is this channel , I'm sharing it with everyone i possibly can! ... thank you for your amazing work
Ответитьwell done
ОтветитьAnnoying this channel always pops up as I’m either asleep or almost asleep .
ОтветитьDamn ironic that we don't have any original writings from the people who gave us the phonetic alphabet.
ОтветитьHumans have been brutal throughout history. That brutality continues. When does it end?
ОтветитьThank goodness that Paul has provided us with another piece of his genius… Nobody does it better… Not even the lovely Carly Simon!

I am watching it with a subtitles and commander Hamilcar Barca was named there as Hamilton Barker 😂
ОтветитьA really marvelous episode.
The Phoenician alphabet which gives us our own was possibly the greatest achievement of their civilization.
I believe that it originated from ancient Hebrew. When the Israelites developed it during their Egyptian sojourn.
The Phoenicians in Tyre probably came from the tribe of Dan who manned the Ancient Pharaohs fleet and brought cedar from Lebanon. Explored the Mediterranean naming many of the rivers and islands with the Tribal name of Dan. They were the founding populations of Crete and Sardinia.
Next level this. I cant imagine the research involved. Should be played in every school.
ОтветитьDude can certainly tell a story. Ill give him that. 👍
ОтветитьPaul, each episode is so excellent, sad, and amazing! I just don’t understand human beings, there is something wrong with us.
Thank you Paul!!
The way Carthage is so often talked about you'd think they rose alongside Rome, rather than preceding them. We only ever hear about the end of the empire cos they only come up in relation to Rome as an 'also-ran', so to speak. Barely anyone ever talks about their wars with the Greeks, for instance. But this makes it clear that they'd had their own grand run as a full fledged empire, doing so much more than just losing to Rome.
ОтветитьThis rules.
ОтветитьExcellent you are at 'Fall of Civilizations'. Thanks are passed from Western Scotland.
ОтветитьWhats the best way to watch these? Chronological or order of release?
ОтветитьI wonder what, if anything could have prevented the fall of Carthage. Was it always fated?
ОтветитьWhy have I never heard of this podcast before.. I'm gonna go through every episode one by one, so far it's an mesmerising and simultaneously relaxing atmosphere to dive into..
ОтветитьDo ancient African civilizations like kemet, Egypt, kush etc
ОтветитьWaited 2 months for the video version. And tonight i just had to listen I get that ita a longer video so it's hard to make.
ОтветитьWhere's the video version?❤
ОтветитьThis guy brings back more culture than all cultural programs of the world
ОтветитьI have watched all FOC episodes but this one hit me the hardest like never before and moved me to tears😢 . Especially in the last 45mins
I felt like i was pulled back to that time and experienced the crippling desperation the Carthagenians had while trying to negotiate their anhilation with Rome, helplessness and utter despair seeing their city ruined and almost forever forgotten. Its all so heartbreaking🥺 a testament of great story telling Mr Paul Cooper
As always: Amazing episode. Thank you so much 😊
ОтветитьMYTH:
People now or ever chewed canabis or drank a tea.
Neither will acomplish anything of value.
Stems were however chewed in some cultures to break down fibre, but the smarter people just peed on the stems and beat them on a rock with a stick.
Stop implying ANYONE ever chewed canabis or made a tea.
Nobody does it more than once. Simply because its disgusting to taste and acomplishes ZERO.
Unsubscribed after you outted yourself as being against freedom of expression. Your videos have gotten progressively worse btw
ОтветитьSubbed after that amazing take down of Musk and Cheong. Masterclass work, sir.
ОтветитьIf Carthage won the punic wars the modern day would be so much more advanced
Ответитьcame here because of the epic response on $8chan. Subbed and looking forward to listening to the podcast on my walks.
