Harold Faltermeyer's "Axel F" is NOT the theme tune to Beverly Hills Cop! It is used throughout the movie when Axel is in action but it's neither in the opening sequence of the movie nor the closing credits. Most movie themes are in the opening sequence, for Beverly Hills Cop that song is "The Heat Is On" by Glen Frey and Faltermeyer.
It's still a classic movie soundtrack song and will always be one of my favourites.

The film score writes the melody as a contratenor voice - roughly equivelent to Horn in F. Hence the sawtooth is a bit too edgy.
