A 970 with 6700k at stock clock can run most vr games surprisingly well. Not racing or flying sims but regular vr games or modded stuff like Vivecraft, valheim, sairento, fps, ect.

Served me well until my 6600 xt arrives. Would not mind another upgrade soon after if i get lucky though.

I was a little scared when I saw some games being played on a GTX 1080ti in VR and they were horrible frames but now considering the fact that not only were they recording, but also that they were non-original VR titles, it settled me a bit.

For anyone watching this now an intel I7 8700k or Ryzen 7 3700x would be bottlenecked by the 1080ti but it may be that diffrence from 90-70 fps in some of the games in this video

How noticeable is the difference in resolution between lower and higher end settings on the racing sims? Is it worth an additional £250 when I purchase a new pc?

Such a helpful video. Reeling in my expectations for graphics in Assetto Corsa. I just got a MSI 1080 gaming (not TI) and was thinking I was going to be nailing 90fps... Thanks for all the great info.

If you have a 1080ti and your VR benchmark only says capable, then yeah, there is a bottleneck somewhere xD

Just received and installed my Asus ROG 1080ti OC edition. What a beast this card is. It really rips through everything.

I was using a Asus ROG Matrix 780ti with my Oculus for the last month. It actually worked pretty well for VR to my surprise.

I would say if you have a 780ti and at least a i7 4790k and you wanna get into VR but can’t afford the full “VR Ready” upgrade all at once just go for it. Get your Rift.

I was able to drive iRacing, pCars 2, AC and RaceRoom at decent settings. Plus all room scale games. The experience was totally acceptable and fun.

When I bought my 1080Ti ages ago (now what seems) My only thought was pcars 2 is coming, I want to run everything in ultra, with VR and record on one pc....based on the 1080ti hype this is what it felt I was going to be able to do....At the bare minimum take out the recording in that equation.. that was my min requirements to enjoy the only VR game I really wanted to play...nope. Fucking hype train.

Overclock your 6700k it will hit 4.8ghz no problem with proper cooling. It is not slowing your 1080ti down to the point you would be able to tell a difference between it and a newer cpu. The 6700, 7700, and 8700 are still very close in performance and will only be different at very high frame rates at low settings like above 144fps. You're still gpu bound at higher resolutions and settings.

Yeh it's a fantastic card. What more could I ask for? An internal HDMI header for my case would be good.

May as well wait another 6-7 months if spending that amount of money.

Hi GM, thanks for the video. I really like PP in AC. I mean without it, you can't even see the brake lights properly, no? Is there a graphical compromise with PP enabled that would still give 90fps most of the time?

And before spending tons of money to upgrade your GPU to work with ancient headset, you could always wake up and buy modern VR Headset, Windows Mixed Reality, and get better resolution, better picture quality that needs way less from GPU of your computer...

ok, i don't know much about VR, but IF I had the budget, why can not I just throw a second 1080Ti card and enjoy this extra power to not worry about fps ... and crying on the bill btw ...
the SLi thing does not work with the VR?

Since the price drop the GTX 1080 has the better bang. Just 50-70 € more than the GTX 1070, but 15% more fps. The 1080ti adds at best 10% to the 1080 and is 250 € more at least here.

I do have this very card, and it might be the best around, but still I have to be very moderate about my settings in Asseto Corsa. On multiplayer with a 22 car grid, there is no chance reaching 90, I´m down to 60 FPS, and that is with World Detail set to minimum, shadow and reflections set to normal, postprosessing off. I have a high-end computer, i7, 32G RAM, and the computer run on around 60% when I play. And when its raining on PS2, then I´m really struggling. So my point is that the graphics cards still has a long way to go. But Nvidia is working on it, the Volta will probably be around 40-45% stronger. What would really help is better resolution in the headset, hopefully 2018 will bring us a new generation. I know Pimax has a new product launching spring 2018, but the fact that they call it 8K, when its only 4K, makes me a little bit worried. Oculus Rift 2? Who knows when. Anyway, we have to make the best use of what we have right now, and by all means, racing in VR is great.

What's the best app for keeping track of frame rate on the Rift? Just got one the other day and haven't really looked at performance yet.
