Great video and perfect honest advice. Very rational and well explained. Indeed, Fedora, Tumbleweed and Arch are the only ones worth using
ОтветитьI started with Manjaro, then migrated to Linux Mint and then to Debian. I installed Manjaro 23 just out of curiosity and the very first thing that happened was pamac throwing errors and a memory leak that ate all 64 gigs of my ram. Needless to say I’m headed back to Debian.
ОтветитьI'm fairly new to linux and i've been having a lot of fun messing around customizing ubuntu server
ОтветитьHey Trafotin! I love your vidoes! It's very interesting watching anyways what linux distros do you use and why?
ОтветитьNo, wait, seriously? Now you're even hating small teams that try to make a nice operating system for free? This is getting ridiculous! Of course, security is important and all, however saying that the OS could pretty much be proprietary just because there isn't a huge load of people working on it is total bogus!
ОтветитьPersonally I just use Debian Sid whenever I can and stable in a few cases
ОтветитьMOOOM PACMAN FUCKED UP MY XORG AGAIN, CANCEL MY MEETINGS!
ОтветитьI will try Fedora i guess. I have tried 4 distros and its not going well i cant get basic things to work despite relentless effort on my part
ОтветитьNix
ОтветитьEyes on software, who ever uses xzlib? 👀 That was so funny to hear nowadays
ОтветитьPlease talk about or do rants about Slackware, TempleOS (probably the most secure OS) , SerenetyOS
ОтветитьIsn't the point of the Steam Deck to play steam games? Like of course you will need a steam account. It's not like people are using SteamOS as their desktop OS
ОтветитьSteamOS needs a Steam account because that is their DRM for games that one purchases in the library. It is meant for gaming, that too the titles one owns in the Steam library. It is not meant to be used as a standalone desktop operating system, even if there is a desktop mode but only for some troubleshooting which is not possible with gamescope.
OS need not have to be designed as one size-fitting all. They can have specific purpose - that way they can optimize and run that purpose more efficiently.
I disagree with a lot of things
How do you think distros will become popular without user feedback?
Have you ever sent an error to that box that appears every time something crashes?
In fact, this made me think, why can't the OS have telemetry but the rest of the programs can? Why do they only activate this when you are using the app? I don't know, the doubt remains
I saw your video and it made me think, thank you.
Not everyone's reasons for using a PC are the same. Some people want the most cutting-edge software and are willing to bug fix. Some people need software to run reliably and consistently over time (control systems, specific out of support software, etc.), and some people want a balance somewhere in between. Every use case is different.
ОтветитьUsually I recomend Fedora for all, but last version have a irritating problem that my mouse just stops working in certain windows in gnome and kde. It anoys the hell of me, and I wanted to try the new Ubuntu. I will come back to it when they solve this bug.
Ответитьyou act like everyone uses computers in the exact same way. i used to neglect updating arch when i was newer to linux because everything just worked as is. after updating arch, it fucked something up when i was at school and unable to fix it when i needed it. i don't give that much of a damn about features. i tend to use the most rudimentary tools to get the job done anyways. vi, sc, etc. debian is legit for my uses.
Ответить2 years later and these opinions are still pretty much valid.
ОтветитьLooking to try Linux out, in light of the absurd MS Copilot+ AI Recall "feature". Been looking at UniveralBlue as something I mount be interested in. Do you have any insights on it?
ОтветитьBeen using opensuse tumbleweed since January. It’s my first linux experience and I love it!
ОтветитьI disagree with you about the Libre distros. For example how can your browser be insecure if it shouldn't run any code in the first place? Websites with javascript are not kosher.
ОтветитьRedStar OS is the only valid Linux Distro.
- Produced by North Korea (best korea).
- Reports everything you do to the government of Best Korea.
- Insane telemetry, including putting trackable hashes on every file your system touches for the full 1984 experience.
- Riced to look like Mac.
Sometimes I wonder if you guys are actually treating those as OSes or are just using them to project your ideology.

Ответить"If you don't know what you're doing, I'm never going to recommend Linux to you."
Spoken like a true dick. Bravo, sir.
SteamOS and steman deck are design to be a handheld console with PC games, is not meant to use it as your main PC, is like a nintendo switch, with a close OS and you need to use a switch account in order to operate, for everything else.. ok..
ОтветитьUfficio zero Linux means office zero Linux and they are named after Italian citys
ОтветитьTo disable telemetry (crash reports) in Ubuntu:
sudo systemctl stop whoopsie.path && sudo systemctl disable whoopsie.path
This got me thinking, if you want a rabbit hole search Intel management engine or AMD secure technology whichever applies to you.
Ответитьinstall arch with `arch_install` and choose plasma. done. you dont need to know what you are doing
ОтветитьFor the deck, you can enter the bootloader with volume key held
ОтветитьSteamOS is console firmware it was never meant to do anything else but access your Steam library. It's an immutable system not meant for general desktop use and you may as well complain that the Linux firmware in your smart TV is "worst Linux ever" because it makes about as much sense. EDIT: The part about needing to log in to install a different OS is a bald faced lie, you just hold down the volume button while booting and it'll load from a USB stick.
ОтветитьEndeavorOS splits the difference between Manjaro and Pure Arch. It is 99.9% Arch, but has a graphical installer and all the little things to get you going. If you're entrenched in Manjaro, and you have your home folders on a separate partition... You can just pave over / and for most applications I tested they will never know.
ОтветитьOne major issue with "stable" distros is the lack of support for newer hardware. I switched from an Nvidia to an Amd GPU 6 months ago for better linux support and I had to upgrade the kernel in Linux mint in order to have my GPU work properly. I switched to Arch linux shortly after, I have not had any major issues with arch and the meme about Arch breaking all the time is not true
ОтветитьHi! What is your DE?
ОтветитьThank you. I love my Mac Os even more now.
ОтветитьI use Slackware I can't stand RPM you will have an incredibly stable island of incompatibility. I also like Arch I usually do set ups for graphic arts or music production.
ОтветитьYou're hyperbolic when complaining about security updates on debian, and the rest of your criticism is just "but muh shiny new stuff". If you want the newer features compile it yourself, use a snap, use a flatpak. I don't want my distro pushing updates that could break.
ОтветитьI respect your opinion
ОтветитьI hate Ubuntu it’s not freedom at all I am a arch user who built my distro from the ground up with gnome and wayland and all the things that make a good distro build
Ответитьim gonna use debian
ОтветитьI am not a hand wringing "I don't agree with you but appreciate your take" concern soyboy like half the people in the comments so I will outright say you're wrong in almost everything you say, confidently wrong even which is worse. IQ in the low temps with delusions of grandeur, other users have already pointed your laughable takes on SteamOS and Debian especially since they are so comically wrong they border on parody. You should give up as a Linux communicator and become a provocateur or a comic, it suits you more than being a serious outlet of information and perhaps then people will take you seriously.
ОтветитьOh you use fedora? cool...
i use arch btw
I got to the manjaro part and just though who the hell uses manjaro. I started on manjaro and borked it instantly. If you want a easy rolling release distro use opensuse tumbleweed.
Also i like arco linuxes config files for i3/sway. It was a great base for me to start my window manager customizations
Great wideo. but what software do you use for your avatar ?
Ответить"Arch linux users are not toxic" Yes, I would have believed this.
