The details of this game are really amazing. I avoided puttin a lot of time in building first cause i am more a fight oriented Soulsborne player, but now that i gave it some time i really like to mess around with improving my home, function and also looks-wise

You can use E while trying to place beams and what not and it gives you different snap options like top snap and bottom snap. It's works great

When you use the temp beam to allow you to snap another one, how do you easily deconstruct the temp beam?
Any time I’ve been trying to take something down I’ve been smashing it with the axe…

For the snapping (tip 1) just cycle the snapping with Q or E on your keyboard. With columns it can snap to top, bottom or auto

I'm amazed how many videos I've seen with people showing how to "correctly" place objects while building..for crying out loud, why does no one use the damn Snapping option!? It makes things so much easier 😂 only takes a few minutes to get used to it how it works but after that it's really easy to keep putting build objects where they should be

I disagree with the basement tip, its too finnicky and if you have built on the wrong rotation for the terrain, it makes things far more difficult. there is also the difficulty of risking breaking your house because breaking terrain could make a single foundation float, and cascade throughout the entire build.

I love the ladder trick with the roof, however one small problem is that is leaves an opening for your wood to go rotten.

i find making a dock with a wood sucks, since rain will weaken the wood, makes it softer, hence I'm using stone.

You can change your snapping point to make it easier. You dont have to do it that way. Not sure the keyboard key, but with an zbox controller you push the right stick to cycle through snapping points when in build mode.

If you want to place a support beam on something that it won't snap to, instead of placing multiple beams, just cycle through the snapping options until you see "top" or w/e is applicable for your situation. Much easier, requires the same number of inputs.

i just started valheim a couple days ago and seeing how much you can do with the building system just blows my mind. so far i've been building very basic houses that just serve my basic needs of a workbench, bed and camp fire. i did however build a chimney in one of my houses. that's the most advanced thing i've done so far. :)

I know the game sees it differently, but I just don't like putting open fires against or near wood :p That's why I developed a building style that emphasizes on a strong foundation, solid stone walls, but second/third floors made of wood. Fireplaces are part of the whole stone construction and the only thing made of stone that rises beyond the first floor. Use alternating wood floor boards to cover much of the stone, or create an elevated deck.

Instead of placing a beam to find a snap connection, I press Q to change the snapping point. helps alot when working with vertical poles (like building a dock and the support poles go underwater). Hopefully this helps out!

I know this video is a year old, so I don’t know if it’s a new option, but on Xbox we have an option to change how the snap function works. On controller with the default controller layout it’s right thumb stick pushed in. There are many different options and it makes building so much easier.
