I don't understand why people buy Steam Decks...

Steam os, it makes pc gaming super close to console gaming. Windows is terrible for handhelds unless there is special software to make is acceptable

What nonsense? Where are the comparison tests with steam deck in games? On Rog Ally with a FullHD screen, games have lower FPS, you still have to downgrade the image to 720p, but then those 720p look much worse than on the 720p Steam Deck screen

Steam Deck is a platform. Ally is just a Windows laptop with a controller build in.

Because Asus doesn't have the future Valve's Steam Deck does. I honestly don't know how you can have that title when one of your first lines for the Rog Ally is "Failed to live up to my expectations." You lose credibility and it hasn't even been a minute. You are basically on your own when you get a Rog Ally. The Steam Deck is constantly getting updates and patches.

thats far too much work to do, just enjoy the damn ally, ive had it for months and months and never had ANY issues with my SD card etc overheating or the device getting ridiculously hot - also what youve done there looks f**kin horrible and no sensible person has access to 3D printing

Steam Deck>Asus, been tested and done. That being said the mods were brilliant.

I'd rather support a "gaming" company like Valve than buying products from a "hardware" company like Asus, MSI and Lenovo whom will probably release 2 devices every year, leaving generations of generations of products in the process. So yea.

Because steam deck and steam os provide better experience compared to windows 11 which isn't really designed for handhelds

I bought a Steam Deck because my ROG Ally fried a $160 MicroSD card.

Valve are literal saviors of Linux gaming. They never gave up on us, and I will continue to support them over other brands.

more affordable, SteamOS UI is arguably better than windows for a handheld.... it's never just about raw performance or numbers, there's other factors too

They buy steam decks because you get more than 1 hour battery life and they use frying pans to cook their eggs, they don’t need the ROG Ally, the thing gets so hot some people have put them in the refrigerator to cool them down, why do you think the ROG ally dropped $300.00 in price? I’ll give you one guess.

Ahhhhhhh, liquid metal + copper is a no-go. You should nickel plate it before it eats away the copper.

In this age software matters more than hardware. And the ROG Ally runs Windows.
That's why I got a Steamdeck.

As someone that was critical of the SoC inside the SD, the thing I've come to understand is that at 15w and less the SD is not slower than these Z1 extreme chips and the lower you go the further the SD pulls ahead, in part due to valve using a quad channel memory configuration instead of the dual channel used by these z1 chips.

If you focus on the specs you ignore that this is a handheld and you need to have a reasonable battery life, something these Z1 handhelds have completely ignored.

My 1TB OLED gets incredible battery life on silence, something that these "better than SD" handhelds don't.

Then add in how atrocious windows is on a handheld, because Microsoft have done nothing to improve the experience and will never improve it in any significant way and compare that to how Steam OS is completely made for the SD with constant updates, fixes and improvements specifically for the handheld experience.

The SoC difference is nothing when you look past the spec sheet.

TLDR; SteamDoes what MicrosoftDont.
