Pensions should be capped at a very low level to encourage high income to make kids to help them when they get old

Most cases.. its not about the men being concerned of being out earned by women.. Most of these independent women normally still seek out a partner that out earns them. Most men I guarantee you would not care if she earns more.

I can’t imagine being a wage slave for 30-40yrs to up-bring a family. Life is already stretched too thin with very limited time, energy resources. Many families today are struggling and miserable just eeeking out an existence day by day and paycheck by paycheck. Why make it tougher.

This is a global phenomenon... sure there's some cultural quirks from each country that play a role, but for the most part young people aren't getting married because they don't see the value in it. Getting married is expensive. Also with easy access to statistics and news, people are able to see how many marriages end in divorce and how expensive even this can be. They are also able to see the lives of many unmarried couples and older singles who are doing just fine, living life to the fullest, and more happier than traditional married couples. Also marriage involves compromise, sacrifice and hard work to make it work... young people just don't have the time these days as work places around the world become more demanding. The only benefit to getting married and having kids is largely for society/the government and not the individual, who is putting in most of the work.

Though it does feel that if workplaces were less demanding and countries actually put forward workplace laws to preserve work-life balance, more people would get married & look at starting a family. But governments these days are too short sighted and greedy to even consider that.

That's the side effects of sudden growth in East Asian countries causing less time for society to adapt to the changes that comes with economic boom. I think it will take one or more generation to adapt or to figure what the permutations and combinations will work for functional society and country at large. You just can't blame youth.
