Today, with a mix of new and used components, you can get a similar setup for $1k. I recently purchased a Denon AVR-X4500H from ebay for $400, I got monoprice monolith encore T5s for LCR (acoustically transparent screen lets me use towers for center channel) for $280 new, 2 identical sets of Klipsch 5.1 speakers off Facebook for $100 total (not the best but fine for surround and height), and an older denon 5.1 amp from Facebook for $30.

I also got a used Epson L1100u for my projector from ebay for $500 that throws an absolutely amazing image on my 150" DIY spandex screen. So after room calibration, EQing and video calibration, my $1400 home theater punches way above its weight. 6000 lumen "4k enhanced" on my 150" screen with 7.2.4 Dolby atmos. I'm very happy with it and won't worry about upgrading for a couple more years.

What would be useful a video or a comment about the best inputs. For example best to use Apple TV 4K for Atmos or Amazon Fire TV 4k Max? Might also depend on the TV. Some might have better pass through than others, Dolby MAT vs DD+, etc.

Can I get a similar budget setup using one 7.2 atmos receiver to handle the surround LR and surround back LR and a 9.2 receiver to pump out the remaining floor channels plus 4 height channels for a 7.2.4 configuration? Only asking because I picked up a 7.2 receiver dirt cheap and hope to add extra to it in the future.

What if one really doesn't like the upfiring Atmos speakers, and wants 4 proper in-ceiling speakers?

Hey just making sure I understand, you can’t externally power the other 2 Atmos speakers, because in the description it says that only front 2 or rear 2 can be externally powered. I was about to buy this but I’m very glad I read the description.

The Denon 4700h gets you Auro 3D for a few hundred dollars more than the 3700h. If you care about Atmos then you would love Auro 3D. It has an excellent upmixer that actually utilizes the height speakers far more effectively and consistently than Atmos. Also allows for a far easier speaker setup where you use height speakers above your front and rear speakers. You don’t mount in ceiling and the enveloping sound effect is amazing and still works for Atmos as well.

I boughted Samsung HW-Q990B for less than €900.
Great sound for movies, music and games. One of the best soundbars available and actually dirt cheap with a discount compared to the competition (which are still waaaaay more expensive even with discounts).
I suppose you can get better sound by spending way more money. But I'm good.

It would cost me around $1518 right now to upgrade to Atmos is it worth it? I don’t think so now to me right now at least. I’m running a 7.1 right now

It’s wireless with a sound bar in front but it’s a really good system for $2000 Nakamichi shockwafe 9.2.4. Best option for non permanent setups with minimal wires

Quick question- I want to have a similar setup to this video in my newly constructed home. Sadly, the builder didn't allow pre-wiring of the room which I want to convert to the media room. I also don't wanna spend thousands of dollars to have a HT company install my supposedly budget setup. So who can now run wires for me? Will best buy do it if I buy some equipment from them(like AVR or amp) or a low-voltage electrician? Any suggestions?

So looking to finally move into atmos lol. I’ve got a 7 paradigm plus subwoofer. In Canada a 7.2 receiver is 1100 but holy shit a 9.2 moves to 2200-3000 dollars. Any idea why the massive jump in dollars after 7.2 receivers? Thanks.

Have a pioneer vsx70 (90W receiver), has 2 channel preout. Can I add 2 channel amp for Front speakers and let receiver handle rest?

If you want to use the TX-NR6050 Onkyo 7.2

And connect a headset to the center and subwoofer and save temporarily
I will complete the system later because of the lack of money currently. Do you recommend any headphones and subwoofer that gives me Dolby Atmos sound and DTSX no less than JBL 9.1 Thank you
