My first thought on seeing your minimalist plane is that it was still more complicated than you needed it to be. For example, you could swap to one of the wing types that carry fuel. They're a lot more efficient than tanks..

The plane crashed because you used vector engines they have high thrust. And also the vector engines are not jet engines they are rocket engines

I couldn't ever master landing, or steering, so my plane just deployed parachutes when I wanted to stop.

It never went particularly fast, so it worked just fine.
