Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5: Fidelity vs Performance Mode Comparison - Which Mode Works Best?

Really wish they had done a no ray tracing mode. Id rather have higher frames. Its ridiculous i can play Spidey Remastered in 90 frames on console but this is basically capped at 70.
VRR used correctly makes a world of difference.

Is it just me or is fidelity mode not even worth it? Draw distance is poor even in cutscenes. There are too many graphical downgrades for fidelity mode running on a PS5. I can’t wait until this gets ported to PC so I don’t have to compromise between visuals and frame rates.

Performance mode stutters like crazy. Tried it on 2 monitors just to make sure, but 60fps is not smooth in this one. Hopefully it gets updated soon.

Ik this is about looking for differences but it’s so hard to find them I’m strugglin all i be seein is the different reflections besides that they still b lookin the same to me😭

Unfortunately, noticed a ton of graphical errors at a distance during cutscenes while in the 60fps mode, and the Fidelity mode has been smooth enough without any of those graphical hiccups!

No going back to 30 fps ever again. Just never worth it.

Why is it so hard for them to make Fidelity 120FPS or even 60. It’s annoying having to play at 30, 40, & 50 FPS just for quality.

Fidelity 120 uncapped

Performance > Fidelity all day long. I don't have the luxury of 40fps so can't speak on that, but the idea of using fidelity to get, amongst other things, the basic console-level RT still seems insane to me after years of owning my ps5. This game is so fast, fluid and smooth at 60fps. If you're stopping to check the reflections in car windows or trophy cabinets then you're just not playing the game right imo

One thing I learned while playing this game is that the difference between 30 and 40fps is way more significant to my eye than I ever anticipated.

im loving the 40 fps mode, but for some reason no matter what my graphics are set to, everything looks more dull than the PS5 remake and Miles Morales game, specifically their faces seem way less detailed.

First world problem here: I have a big TV (77" LG CX). The only downside is that with bigger TVs, you definitely will want more frames, since movement is physically bigger. Played on 120Hz, VRR unlocked, performance. Yeah, I know I missed out on some things, but this game still looks awesome!

I would love to see spidermab 2 vs spiderman ps4 graphics especially for those who skipped the remake and miles ps5.

This game doesn’t look anywhere near as good as Horizon forbidden west, and that’s a cross gen title.

There is NO SUBSTITUTE for 60FPS. Full RT isn't worth the HIT in frames.

hey df! would be great you guy guys highlighted visually some key differences sometimes. my eyes are not as trained as yours, i try my best but at times i cant simply see the difference hahah

I don’t even mind 30fps for these games. In other games I notice it right away. Something insomniac does with motion blur makes it still very smooth for me.

Insomniac has seriously impressed me. Like many here, I'm rocking the 120 VRR with the Fidelity at 40. It's really awesome. Insomniac has set the bar. Best superhero games out there

Mary Jane looks like a transgender in game, I have to imagine that that serves some sort of purpose - And why are they trying to change Spanish to be more inclusive? These sorts of decisions just take me right out of pivotal moments in the story, like when MJ calls JJJ to quit; I kept thinking "Why does she look like a transgender?" and then I pondered the many reasons why rather than just thinking "What a badass MJ moment, good for her."

the game and story is amazing but for my personal ranking it's a 6-7/10 because of issues like the ones I used as an example above

So its 60 to 65 NORMALLY and only 70+ when you stare at the SKY or Ceiling like i Said. Also nice you revised down your normally target from 65-80FPS to 60-80FPS. It's hard to admit you mistake on the internet 😃

The visual disparity between modes is even more significant in late game when visuals really ramp up and there’s a lot going on on screen. Fidelity Mode is def the way to go with this one. There’s also a lot of aliasing or shimmering in general in performance mode that is definitely noticable from a normal viewing distance.

On the one hand a PS5 Pro maybe would deliver quality settings with RT at solid 60 fps and performance mode targeting 120 fps.

On the other hand I wonder what performance a Series S would have in this game?! Maybe these 1000p upscaled to 1440p with those performance mode graphics. But maybe without any RT and surely just with 30 fps.

So it's good that we do have such an affordable console like Series S, but these "current gen" titles already show the limitation of the consoles with RT settings and the ability to deliver more than 30 - 40 fps with high quality settings. It's too bad that even PS5 cannot calculate more pixel at this point.

So what does it say about the games we do see in 2 years?

Flickering on fidelity 120hz smooth seems quite bad

All I care about is nice smooth performance so reflections dont really matter to me haha. It is super cool to see the differences though, game looks great either way.

Sorry but for a ps5 exclusive game, this looks absolutely terrible. After playing ghost of Tsushima on the ps5 and then now playing this. Spider-Man 2 looks like a ps4 game.

The shimmering is really distracting. They should've get rid of RT and improve anti-aliasing on performance.

My TV can only do 120hz in 1440p (Only HDMI 2.0). Would you guys say the 10 extra frames are worth the drop in resolution? I feel like I notice quite a drop in image quality, even when sitting from far away. Is there anything else changing than the resolution?

40fps fidelity mode is my preferred way so far its the video game equivalent to having your cake and eating it too.

It sucks that the color goes from 12b to 8b when you use 120hz
