This song was played way ahead of its time. I remember people especially movies and tv shows used to make fun of this song all the time. They would be clips where I got his singing on stage in front of a live audience, singing the song where is she’s got a gun in the whole audience ducks and screams.

I didn't realize just how formative this song was for me growing up until it popped into my head today.

This is probably Aerosmith's best song, on their best album. Compared to the other tracks, you can tell Bruce Fairbairn and the band knew this song needed and deserved more attention than the others. There are more layers to this song, more things going on, it's a different level of production overall on an already great album. Without the added attention to perfect this song, I wonder if it would still hit the same.
And to think, the band were just one early 80's heroin overdose away from being a 70's afterthought.

Anyone else feel that the music video, along with the song, would make a compelling tv series today? I just watched it again today, and felt it was still compelling today, as when it was first released...I am thinking what if they expanded upon what Aerosmith presented in this video, and made at least two seasons out of it....that way they can explain what happened, and expand what happened in the first season (from the video stand point), then further explain it in more seasons? I think it would be an awesome series if its explored upon 🙂

My brother and I used to debate at the end of the video whether or not Janie was getting arrested or not. The lyrics clearly state that she was, but the cop is not handcuffing her and seems to be comforting her at the end, so we often argued. To me, I think she was being arrested.

Good song even for those of us blessed with good fathers nothing like this song. Our rights shall not be infringed.

I love songs that tell an investing story. Despite how tragic the circumstances are regarding Janie and her father, I still see some positives in this song since she was able to punish her abuser in the end.
