Have you ever bought a garment you love but only wear it on very special occasions, because if you wore it at other times it would look too shabby for those special occasions. I tried buying 2 of the same garment. I wore the one often, and kept the other for special occasions. I got more wear out of them this way than by just buying one

Sensible strategies but vegetables and making your own clothes costs a lot more than getting quality clothes from a mass produced shop or second hand.

Neither LED lights nor microfibre cloths are good, tbh. LED lights are environmentally unsound and not good for human health, and microfibre cloths pollute.

I highly disagree with the "use cash" one. If you're a responsible spender, card is WAY more effective because cash is easier to loose track of what you're spending while cards are there, registered on the app any cent you spend.

I'm 57 and do a bunch of these (we were dirt poor growing up so were very frugal), my one issue is I usually leave the TV on all day even when not in the same room as I life the background noise, will now put on my iPad or even my record player and just have music in the background. 👍🏻

I have a pile of clothes to mend, gotta get on that and dig out the needle and thread.

1.)Finish your cooking using residual heat. Turn off your cooker 5 minutes early and keep the oven door closed. At the end of one week you’ve saved 35 minutes of fuel - enough to cook another meal. One month = 150 minutes. Electric ovens stay hot for even longer.
2.)always put a lid on your pans. You need less fuel & you create less steam. Again, switch off early and leave lid on.
3.) get to know your cooker. It might run a bit hot, so you can lower the temperature. Most cookers have a hot spot and a cooler spot. Adjust your shelves to makes the most of this.
4.) when you replace your kettle, buy a temperature control one. You rarely need actual boiling water.
5.) buy or borrow a killerwatt meter. Check what each program on your washing machine & dishwasher costs to run. Chances areyou’ll be surprised which program is the cheapest. A £14 purchase which will more than pay for itself.

Frugal tips. That was an excellent list. I've used most of them.
1> Use a hot water bottle on cold nights. Filling your water bottle from the tea kettle before bed quickly becomes a beloved ritual that conditions your body to go to sleep. Your feet will love the light massage as the water sloshes, and your toes will seek it all through the night - delightful.
2> If you tell/train your children to order water when you do eat out, you will save about 30%.
3> If you order hot dogs, you'll always get the lowest priced item on the menu.
4> Do keep a shop-bought frozen entree in the freezer. Mother will be too tired to cook if she or a family member is ill and keeps her up half the night.
5> Stop using fabric softeners, they are a waste of money and increase the flammability of fabric. Use ⅓ cup of baking soda or white vinegar instead.
6> Veterinarian prices are extortionate, buy medicine for pets from a livestock store and save hundreds of dollars.
7> Stop doing DIY projects at home. Have the patience to use that money to pay off your mortgage; then do projects. We paid our mortgage off in three-and-a-half years. We did give up more than DIY projects, but that was a surprising amount of money.
8> Another big surprise was hiring a lawn mowing service; it equaled the amount we spent maintaining and paying to repair our equipment. We saved ourselves time and effort.
9> One more word on mortgages. Once you have 20% equity in your home, tell your bank you want to stop paying Personal Insurance Protection. My bank tried to persuade us that it was a lot of trouble for a little bit of money. But I was firm! Instead of the $50-$75 a month they said it would be, we saved about $250 a month. PIP is insurance to protect the bank in case you default your loan, it does not go towards your principle or interest. When multiplied by 360 months, you can see the amount you save.

Appliances that require 240 watts, devour electricity. This video covered the savings of line drying versus a machine dryer. Your cook stove is also a money devouring beast.
10> Cook on top of a woodstove to save massive amounts of money. Bread and cakes are cooked inside a Dutch oven.

11> A word on power outages. If you must use a camp stove when the electric goes out: Butane gas will not flow at freezing. Propane gas will flow when temperatures are well-below freezing.
12> Instead of cutting chicken into eight pieces, always cut each breast in half. This makes it the approximate same serving size as the other cuts and provides ten pieces.

I'd love to hang my clothes outside to dry, but living in a condo apartment makes this impossible as it is forbidden to do so. Re making clothes - fabric costs a lot and unless you are good at this, you may waste more money that you'd save buying from second hand, thrift and discount stores. Also, buying microfibre cloths is a waste of money when you have perfectly good potential rags already, such as old towels, t-shirts and sheets that can be cut up to be used as rags. My mom always had a "rag bag" on the go for this and I also have one. I use margarine tubs and yogurt containers for leftover storage; once they have been used a few times they can be recycled. I'm thinking that us old gals who were born in the last half of the 40s and early 50s still know how to economize. We tried to pass it on, but our kids don't seem to have gotten the message and most certainly haven't passed it down to their kids. They eat loads of fast food, throw out perfectly good food that says "best before", buy coffees that cost as much as a can of coffee that would make 100 cups, and laugh at us for wearing our old clothes, then going and buying "vintage" stuff that costs more than our "old" stuff cost in the first place. We also know how to not get buried in debt by living beyond our means.

I'm a Gen Xer(born in 1978). On most Sundays, my mom would cook a big dinner. For the next several days, we would have leftovers for dinner. Sometimes my dad would take leftovers to work for his lunch. I continue to follow that tradition.
I once air dried my clothes because the dryer broke down. I fell in love with it because my clothes smelled soooo good. So I got into the habit of air drying my clothes during the summer - weather permitting.

Learn to do clothes alterations yourself.
Switch off the water while brushing your teeth.
Switch off the water while applying shampoo or shower gel.
Don't buy microfiber towels, cut old clothes like t-shirts into rectangles and use those instead.
Go to bed early instead of watching tv, this way you watch less commercials, feel better and have time to work out or read a book in the morning.
Use daylight for reading, use the darkness for sleeping.
Replace shower gel and other liquid products (hand soap, shampoo, boy lotion etc.) with solid products. They are cheaper in the long run, don't spill, are easier to carry on vacations.
Dress indoors according to the weather (lightweight short clothes in the summer, long warm pants, woolen socks and sweaters in the winter) and reduce costs for AC and heating.

I did the buying off brand items but the texture, taste was not good. Be careful with canned vegetables. Name brands cost more but less liquid. Off brand add more liquid, less product and product are in pieces.
I stay away from foreign seafood products. My concern are products from Asia. How the product is raised. Is it sanitary. Are antibiotics used.
Anyway, I use about 40 of these tips for awhile now and you definitely save money.
