SLs had manual windows???
ОтветитьHad a 76 280 SE in the same colour. Had a 4spd. I’ll take two type E’s any day but too late now
ОтветитьEuro spec looks so much better with slim bumpers
ОтветитьAnother super video getting me checking the classifieds. Is doing a video on the 996 Turbo a bit beneath Harry? It’s the best bang for Buck you can buy and my current ride.
ОтветитьLast élégance and class king Daimler
ОтветитьI wish I had Harry's bank balance!
ОтветитьI’ve watched this video three times now. Just love this car and your description. Hope to mug my own R107 this spring
Ответитьwho is desperate for one of these in london now ULEZ is around :)
ОтветитьThe front and back is nice but from the side looks like a remote a old remote lol
ОтветитьI LIKED IT
ОтветитьA wonderful video. A wonderful car. I must watch more Harry's Garage!
ОтветитьThey are so beautiful. From a time when Mercedes knew about build quality.
ОтветитьThe interior shocked me, I never knew they looked so modern even in 71!
ОтветитьHarry loves how the wipers are tucked away " on the passenger side". Not true, unless you drive on the wrong side of the road. And Harry, carpet trunk kits are now available.
ОтветитьThanks for your reviews Harry you do a wonderful job.
ОтветитьAmerican luxury convertibles had fully Electric tops in the early sixties , great looking car anyways
ОтветитьI am a major jag enthusiast. But, gues which car i own?
ОтветитьBeautiful car. We haven’t seen the 107 in any recent garage update vids. Was it sold?
ОтветитьA 300 V6 ,Is plenty enough in one off these .my next car after i get rid off my E38 728I .
ОтветитьMy father had one for years and driving it is what turned me on to BMW because this car drives rather dull, like almost all Mercedes. Beautiful but boring.
ОтветитьHi! great video, informative too. I have just purchased a very similar but newer R107 Sl 350 from 1980. I was wondering if you are 100% sure about the "S" standing for 'sport'? I am under the impression that it stand for 'slope', which makes it more suitable for going down hill. The 'L' stands for 'low', making it more suitable for uphill. Please correct me if i am wrong!!!!
ОтветитьStill very very common to see these in the US. People drive them like any other car, street park them almost year round, out on rainy days. And i've hardly ever seen one with significant rust which is nearly unbelievable in the north east
ОтветитьSame colour as my 350SL but mine has the alloys instead. Timeless
ОтветитьNice vid, as am considering buying one. However, disagree with your pagoda assessment. I had a 230 and subsequently 280, drove them all over Europe. Never had a problem with the handling. Regards to price, you're right. Pagoda prices now mental. I paid around 3k for my 230sl in 1986. Then, about 3 yrs later, got a 280 sl california (no soft-top) from the USA which cost me about 8K$ (including shipping). Never dreamt that they would get to the prices they are today. Bugger!!!
ОтветитьI had a 1983 SL280 in red. I wish I never sold it! Even the radio, air con and the central locking worked as new.
ОтветитьI own one. Everyone tells me to stop spending money on it.
ОтветитьGreat video as always Harry. You can see why the SL was such as success - it was a beautiful car in 1971 and remains so in 2022. Easy to drive, and can be fun to drive when you want it to. And it was built when a car being a Mercedes meant something - not the rubbish they turn out today. Who wouldn't want a beautiful car that is easy to live with?
Ответитьthe boot opening and closing sound is so iconic
ОтветитьUpdate: I've just bought another one: 1978 450SL
ОтветитьNice example , Rare no crack blue dash , Need to replace door strap, starter hitting ring gear and a set of sun visors And yer done !
ОтветитьA fave of mine
ОтветитьAt least it doesn’t have the 11 hydraulic actuators to put the top down and up that eventually leak mineral oil all over you.
ОтветитьOne of my regrets is selling my 73 350 sl
ОтветитьThis is an old video because that SL is worth probably 60K now
What a lovely video thanks Harry you have such good taste and its nice we can see how it should be done
I had a silver 1973 450SL that i bough for only 6k in 1998. It was a really nice cruiser that i used to take from the UK to France every now and then. The MB tex was indeed indestructible. Still think about it now.
Ответитьdang i didnt know they do 128mph i got up to 110 in mine
ОтветитьHi Harry. Any chance of a reprice of this car. Do you still have it as can’t remember seeing it in your garage recently. Would it work with the new fuels you are testing?
Ответитьdream car fr fr
Ответить😅
ОтветитьThis is their problem.
When they make timeless lasting products, nobody needs to buy new for decades.
They lose money.
Meanwhile cheap car sellers become more wealthy and powerful and in the end push these companies aside.
If you buy the aftermarket curved convertible top levers, and jam them into the slots, they can be left in. No problem when putting the top down.
ОтветитьIs the d/side rear 1/4 been painted? It looks darker
ОтветитьWould be fun to see an update on this car.
ОтветитьIn 1972 I bought a Datsun 240z for $2200. If I could have bought an XKE for $2600 I would done that. But and XKE in 1970 was about $5500. Corvette was around the same price.
ОтветитьHarry - looking to get either an R107 280 SL, a R129 500 SL, or an R171 SLK 55. Which Mercedes roadster would you pick?
ОтветитьI love those sl it's my birthday tomorrow I'm turning 60 and guess what I'm going to buy
Ответитьstop complaining about the roof
once you have been sprayed and have to deal with repairs of a R129 roof you will knee down very thankfully indeed for this roof
and also this lind of car you only take it out in sunny weather.
in my R107 which I own know since 2008 the roof disappeared into atoms because it was literally never up and sat in a garage to wait for the right weather.
also the suspension- is brilliant!
even compared for a modern car.
like every classic benz it just is much better than every other nee modern car - maybe except for Bentley & Rolls.
DAMN I LOVE THOSE R107
These early ones 71-74 are just beautiful.
ОтветитьThey're not a sports car but I promise you if you push one hard. They get around a circuit surprisingly quick for what they are and the brakes hold up just fine. Loads of modern cars overheat or just shit the bed when you get them on circuit. These don't. You just have to drive around the soft handling.
ОтветитьThe rear side speakers were not stock, were they ? Sorry, but they are obnoxious looking. I’m fortunate to have a 1973 450 with 45K on the clock. They are wonderful to drive & admire.
Thanks for your informative video.
