How to select multiple photos in Google Photos on computer

this is sorted by date which makes it completely useless

Make sure that all the photo thumbnails are loaded before last photo selection. And there is a limit of 500 to download

Thanks for this video. Is it possible to first select multiple photos and then move them to an already existing album?

Well, I've followed these instructions to the letter and all I can say is that the first and last photos now have ticks on them and none of them in between. I can't get any of the others to be selected at all. So, I'm stumped. It seems to me clearly that Google has designed this so that downloading all the pictures is virtually impossible unless the whole lot are individually ticked.
