Have you tried Blender's new FREE sculpting Addon?

It's actually accessible outside of sculpt mode it's option is just at the top of render tab and it should be on the tools tab at the editor properties.

Does anyone know what video it is he shows with the brick sculpting in that quick little time-lapse he does?

The word VDM does not appear once in the description nor in the title. Sounds a bit better than your "FREE" which doesn't really help anyone to find that video.

How to get that N-panel filter?

I think I’ve tried to use that brush manager and can’t get the top header/ loader/ browser area to load reliably in properties. Only with the key command. What are you using? what version? It seems perfect for my needs except that it won’t load the area that’s kind of very important.
