Im not sold on the idea its for electrical production as the lingam seems incidental in the demonstration. Its definitely for something we dont know. Rather than the modern conclusion its a divinely manifested symbol of the yoni and you worship it. Thats like worshipping a ancient wheat mill stone in my interpretation. Perhaps scholars dont bother or dont want to offend by denying the interpretation its divinely manifested and only purpose is symbolic. But you look at it and say no thats for something. Like at the top of aztec temples, thats a sacrifice platform humans get splayed onto. We know what thats for.
