This is still too hard for me unless I had someone in person

Great tutorial! I finally figured out the obi ani spin, this is the first obi ani tutorial that helped me understand this skill. ❤

Great tutorial, thank you! It looks like there are more spins than there actually are.

Im so confused on the back and bringing it back and slashing. I have to make my saber lose velocity and go the other way which really doesnt allow the fluid motion

I call it the Ani-Wan spin. I think it sounds better.

Strange story. I found changing the name of the motion from a spin to a whip made it all made so much more sense. Great vid❤

i was thinking of this exact move like 2 days ago where i made an off comment to a co-worker how cool the obi-ani looked and how i would like to learn it one day when i get my own saber. this video is a blessing and definitely something im going to show around to all my peers who are huge star wars nerds like me.

thank you for this video, it is absolute perfection.

Great tutorial...the neopixel sabers are looking so real they can practically replace CGI...who'd thought, as a kid back in 1983 when ROTJ came out, that we'd eventually have realistic looking lightsaber's. Not Fluorescent plastic tubes with hilts or flashlights...Absolutely Amazing.

That is so unbelievably cool! I had never even thought about using a sabre myself, but then YT throws this video to me, and WOW! I had no idea what saber grips were, and can even spin with relative ease/control! That would make a SUPER awesome Halloween costume part, knowing how to do that!

How long did it take you to get the hang of it and make it look THAT simple and easy?

I practiced this with one of my swords (they are all extremely sharp).

I already am an expert with swords, so I wasn’t worried about getting cut, but I should have considered that I might hit something behind me.

I ended up hitting the 3 & 1/2 inch thick maple (wood) table behind me with my tungsten carbide broadsword and slicing clean through it.

After that, I decided to do what I should’ve done from the start; do it outside.😂

I realize this is only choreographed sword movement but the Obi-Ani spin you demonstrate is an actual striking and blocking movement in Filipino Kali. This technique is also seen in some Italian forms. To make your technique stronger, DO NOT OPEN your hand when spinning your blade as it makes it easier to be disarmed. Of course starting out will be difficult so you need to practice the movement slowly and speed up as you gain competence. Flexibility, strength and stability can be gained training your wrists at least 2x a week. In Kali or Arnis the torquing spinning technique is used to create speed and power either for a deflecting block/parry or slash and strike.

Thanks for this video tutorial. I just ordered a saber so my son and I can have fun together. He's 5 and just now getting into Star Wars and his absolute favorite duel is between Obi and Ani. He watches the video at least once a day so if I can learn some of these tips and tricks to teach him, safely, it would be amazing. Thank you again for all you do and keep doing what you do.

I think a better name for the spin would be the Hayden spin since he's the first that brought it on screen. He actually learned the spin because he saw (probably a stunt guy) doing it. He thought it looked cool.
