She's really ignoring all the nuance around his 'support' for Trump. He supported a shift in american politics. This can be by any agent. It's a shame she's only there to get gotcha soundbites.

Zizek's message (as I interpret it) is that our situation is more or less equivalent to that of a convicted criminal awaiting a harsh sentence. The criminal knows within his own mind that he is merely participating in a collective fantasy, but at the same time recognises the full reality of his own powerlessness; and finally concedes that a suitable abandonment must begin with an equal rejection of his remaining humanity as it is.

Maybe it was callous of him to endorse Trump, because Trump’s election galvanized the right causing real violence against minorities that Zizek himself was not subject to. But as a young American I can’t deny that Trump galvanized the left. I would still be some kind of centrist libertarian if it weren’t for Trump, and now I’m a socialist. And so is my wife, and so are many of my friends…

I saw Zizek talk at Leeds uni a few years ago. The lecture theatre was so full that people were actually sitting on the floor!

I absolutely admire how even the interviewer handled this whole conversation. She does her job of trying to corner him, and he just holds his integrity and authenticity and she chases it respectfully without trying to smear him or belittle him! You can tell they're both enjoying this conversation deeply!
