When you commit a heinous crime, and you're young-- you're just a young criminal. The mind is already damaged. No amount of therapy or incarceration will change that. I don't like it when the system re-visits cases of people sentenced to life or death for awful crimes they did when underage and reduce the time prior to being released early or releasing them immediately based on time served. They don't change except to get worse. They just try to get smarter about getting caught.

I was not afforded that opportunity. Tue District Attorney would not allow me to testify and forbid anyone in her office to release the court date to me. She wouldn't even let me attend the trial. I've never gotten closure. I feel if I had been allowed to just see him get sentenced, it would have been better for me mentally. She wouldn't let that happen. Years later I started investigating what happened with his case. His charges were lowered tremendously. He received time served as far as being in jail for 30 days and 6 mos probation.
I was absolutely shocked. That's why she didn't want me to testify. I also found out he was friends with a person she sort of worked with.
She never told me about The Crime Victims Compensation Act. She never told me I could have gone after him in civil court either.
My life hasn't been much of a life.
