Is World of Tanks Closing in 2025?

Hey everyone! Thanks for your interest in the video - let me clarify these are back of the envelope calculations at best to debunk any worries you might have that WoT will slow down in the next 5-10 years. Any game that makes this much, as I show, will be around for a very long time. A few things to note...
1) By using 2022 RU server data this exaggerates player numbers as many Ukrainians have left and joined EU since.
2) These are "peak Christmas" player numbers and will be less during the rest of the year.
3) Yes it doesn't include multiple accounts or bots.
Accordingly my estimate is likely to be HIGHER than reality, but it's still, in my humble opinion, a solid representation of the situation and even if numbers or revenue was half or a quarter of what I found then WoT will still be a wise investment for WG for a decade.

also theres no way that there are 7 million active wot players worldwide.. theres just no shot.

guys there is a chance that wot could close, they could focus on mobile games and stuff.. never understimate the strength of corporate decisions..

As always, great analysis by QB. IMHO, it may change, it may consolidate, but they’d sell it to another gaming company before they’d shut it down.

Brilliant video! Just a perspective from a brand new player who started in the Asia region a month ago (I moved here several years ago). On tiers III-IV the waiting time hardly ever exceeds 1 min, so unless people are extremely impatient it does not feel like the game is dying. I am expecting that tiers V-VIII will be even more populated and I certainly do not have an impression of an abandoned franchise as someone coming into the game from the outside.

I'm pretty sure 2.1 million active players in EU is an overestimation. Most people who follow QB on twitter are above average and those are exactly the people that wouldn't play Patton the tank. I'd say its about 1.4/1.5 for EU, maybe even lower,

With their complete shit decisionmaking and clear inability to improve MM and RNG to a reasonable state, how can you actually think they will do something good in the future.
WoT was such a great game in 2014 or so and then everything just went haywire with plain stupid decisionmaking.

Reducing RNG influence and at least TRY to have a proper MM with some balancing (too many times, the outcome of a battle is just written on the wall looking at tank distribution and map played) WoT would be a lot better.
a complete imbalance on premtanks is also crazy.

Having your game revolve around the idea to piss players off with its RNG mechanics and trying to get them pay more is just a shit idea and has been for a while. They never realized just how many players and income they lost by pissing players off that WOULD casually pay some money to cater the few high money dumpers/clanplayers.

Stating fact for 30% is wrong, it is only an assumption based on a poll only accessed by QB fans willing to take part in that poll, a decimal proportion of a games player base is therefor only leading to conjecture, so in reality the figure is a guesstimate. I myself and friends never played Patton The Tank, but players have shown bots running around in them, and many players have created alt accounts for this Christmas events free rewards, it has always been generalised that WoT EU has millions of registered accounts, but that a majority are inactive, many are same players with duplicate accounts, the reality may only be a couple of million of whom a fraction are dedicated and spending though, we simply have no hard facts.

As for the game closing down, I can't see that happening soon myself, but bear in mind BFP4F was more popular that BF3 at one point, with many players spending a fortune on that P2W micro transaction loot box game nonsense, the servers were full, yet EAsy still decided to close those servers down on an active gaming community just to use the same servers for Star Wars BattleFront. Many gaming companies do make such choices.

With WoT, I would hazard they would be closing/combining US servers somehow and possibly combining EU regions before closing, the game is still generating income, WoT+ etc, and if there was a financial issue there are many options that would have the current player base spend more money, BIA crews with skins, Commanders, bounty and bond equipment, reward vehicles, so much could be monetized, and again BFP4F did exactly that by selling items for real money to players, including the locked and high rank rarest drops as they wound down the servers.

All games come to an end, global issues can affect this as well. Now bearing in mind current EU region situations and predictions, who knows what WG are looking at over the next three years.

If WoT will murge the Western Servers I beg them to make them NA based... I'm an Aussie and I literally don't have a good enough connection to the EU to even load up that server.

It feels unrealistic to think that 2022 numbers in RU region are remotely close to what should be now in 2024 with 2 years of war and forced conscription in some areas, so a bit of a flaw there imo. Besides that, it's mostly speculation with some data to back it up, which is fine, but doesn't look like the game doesn't have profit, so why close it and have doomsday talks 🤷‍♂

Don't forget that there is also a Chinese server which is not running directly by WG. It has a player base as much as the RU server.

im also worried, im from AUS and the asia server usally had around 15,000 max at peak times but its started to dwindle into 10 to 12 thousand and i already get about 120 ping so i cant be able to play EU or NA

I clicked to get the tank but have no interest in playing it so never done it.

I should be on the NA server but i play on the EU server so not sure if that helps anything

I claimed Patton the Tank and uninstalled the game on 5th of January. I'll come back again on the next xmas season. I play WOT like 20 days a year in the past 3 years.

Basically stopped playing a few years ago and stopped spending on everything new three years ago. Claimed 5 patton the tanks on different accounts and think I played a game on each one. Doubt I have played 100 games over the last few years when I had been a daily player.

It seems to me that 'WOT Express' has somehow managed to put a 'Mole' in WG 🤣 just to find all these Interesting rumours! 🤣😆🤣 Rofl, How Ridiculous the whole lot are and being so Jealous of such a successful Game title through 10+ years now! Well the state of WOT is always a mess not to mention only focuses on profit than improving the MM further along with equal balancing that offers good gameplay for each side but no they rather focus on money is more better. Also project CW is not that good either it is mediocre at best not surprised on WG doing things for more profit and nothing new about it.

Also that numbers of 635,000 playing patton the tank? More like bot accounts for sure only played my Patton the tank for 10 battles and thats it. I no longer see Patton the tank that much in battles, also if there are still a lot of players are active the match making shouldn't be that bad but majority always bot teams and not worried if WOT will close or not since the game is no longer fun as it used to be in the old time.

Haha, WG roll out QB to try to stop the rumours. Fact is all your figures are guess work at best. We all know what really counts is profit not player numbers. In fact high player numbers that are F2P is very bad for WG. Since game servers are massively expensive to run. We will see, but as they say, there is no smoke without fire.

But I haven't played it and don't plan on doing it maybe ever.
Simply because it is one hell of a crappy tank.

its almost i want to draw back all of my purchases in wot and leave the game, this vid made it more tempting. Almost have spent over $1200 on the game for the past 5 years, and the majority of it when the 703 II was in the boxes. i dont think i get all my money back, but it is what keeps me playing because to make "worth" of my money.

Well i have being playing on SEA server nearly every day i have looked it's only been around 11k max most last year I remember when it used to be closer to 20k

Death to war gaming I say. NA server would be bigger if wg didn't screw people with the rng rigging and specially since they gone woke. They are bring the top players down and bring the bad players up. Looks like Asia servers aren't putting up with this either. I think I reach the end for this game. I have a lot of time and unfortunately money tied up in this game over the last 10 years. I keep hoping wg would un F it self but seems like they keep going deeper. I guess the RU and EU seem to like that kind of stuff. Also I bet a lot of people (not players) log in to get the free tank. I know a lot of people that don't really play anymore but will log in to claim the new free tank.

I would love to see quicky play on the console ..world of tanks modern warfare..and see how much fun he has/not have any compair it to PC
