Love your videos but one thing that seems to be a huge elephant in the room is the fact that H.D.D's use way less electricity than pretty much all S.S.D's , sure the current fashion is to have loads of RGB's or Unicorn Vomit as i call it , but as electricity prices rocket its a consideration a lot of people forget, in the strive for pointlessly fast drives that 99% of people wont use or need

Since all brand drives have the same TBW the metric is pretty much uninteresting nowadays. And 99% don’t use 4 different drives in their workflow.

There technically IS a gaming SSD, the Sabrent Rocket 4 plus G has 02 firmware, and Direct Storage support for sustained performance in gaming applications, but outside that Sole offering from Sabrent you are more or less correct, the overwhelming majority of that trash is simply marketing garbage that has ZERO effect on Gaming or Overall performance.

But what can I do if I update a game and my average response time shoots up to 2000ms and above 50ms my disk gets at 100% usage, and it starts to lag my system?
the most amount that the nvme uses is 20MB/s max varying between 10-20MB/s

I have 660P 1TB NVMe and I have OS and Games on it, basically one for all disk.
Capacity is also at like 80-90% filled because I am keeping files on it from projects. and it is at 80% health.

what are the solutions I can get rid of such a problem?

Besides branding, SSDs that are SLC OR MLC will be theoretical more reliable and faster than TLC and QLC.

PCIe 3 has not been saturated by the biggest graphics cards, and now we have PCIe 4. When it comes to NVMe drives it depends on whether it is a SLC (single layer) or a much slower MLC drive.

Can you direct me or simplify that question's reply.
Thank you!

As someone who also does some gamining, do you recommend getting a 2TB m.2 instead of two 1TB m.2s and then creating two 1TB partitions?
Are there downsides?

😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 I was disappointed to find out that games. Only load at 700 MB a second Maximus. That means no matter how faster SSd's are or your m.s 2s it won't matter. ITS ONLY Transfer rate.,.

Can someone explain how this can be tested? The used tech not even 5 years old, and the reliability numbers of SSD drives is based on statistics (lies, damn lies and...) and math.
And isn't it smarter to backup regularly, and have a spare ssd drive lying around. That way you can minimize your downtime, and that might be cheaper than going for the most reliable, and more expensive, SSD drive.
Yes it's nice that a company will replace your drive within 5 years, but without a spare unit you're screwed if you need to use that drive as a professional.

For average computer users, the single most important statistic would be actual, not claimed, reliability. The TBW specification is just that, a specification. In most cases the TBW for the same size drive is the same across the various brands. And yet some brands have a much higher failure rate than others. That is the information I'd love to see, but I doubt any manufacturer is sharing that information.

You said boot/os/programs drive could be 3.0 or even as slow as sata? So I wouldn't benefit from my boot, project and cache drives all being nvme 4.0? If only two of them can be 4.0, which two should they be, and what's the answer for if only 1 of them can be? (The rest would be 3.0)

So the biggest bottleneck for these super high read/write speeds is always going to be software? And if my takeaway is correct, as example, if I get an SSD with the highest read speeds on the market coupled with the best CPU, huge ram etc, it will still chug just as much as an average speed SSD if I try opening a massive 200-300MB image because the Photo Gallery app of Windows is not designed to open large files quickly enough even if the hardware could do it? And basically, the same is going to happen with vast majority of programs while only a handful of highly specialized professional grade apps can really take advantage of something like 7000MB+ of read/write speeds? So if I understand it correctly, there is no benefit from high SSD speeds whatsoever in "normal" every day use?

I cannot find 1 current list for the highest TBW. The T-force 1tb is not stored by any recognised local stockists and I cannot see anyone stocking the 2TB - is there a problem with it?

Ответить
didyouhear111
didyouhear111 - 28.03.2023 21:37

I disagree with your comment that read and write speeds are practically useless whilst having the ability to use a terabyte of data every day for five years is a quality feature. I don't see a scenario in which a professional would use a mere 2tb drive that much. However, if someone was using a SSD to move 500gb a day for five years, the amount of time saved over that period is very noticeable. Even if you are only saving a very conservative 1 minute a day, that's 30+ hours saved over its warranty

That TBW on the team group ssd doesn't mean that it will last that long, it's just a warranty........means that if your ssd is broken. They will give you another used ssd and your data will be gone.......that's it.......kinda misleading

You have to make a video where you tell us what the best PC configuration for a content creator would be for you.
If we had 5 or 6 ssd's, would you install the Adobe programs, for example, on the same disk of the OS?
And where would you have the projects hosted? On the same drive as the programs or on a separate drive?
It would be great.
