Dick York suffered an unfortunate injury on a movie set prior to Bewitched, but this is not what killed him. What killed him was lung cancer due to his years of heavily smoking cigarettes. Had he not smoked he might have lived long enough to benefit from modern medicine and had his back problems fixed.

Really have to feel sorry for the man. He endured so much agony on the set of Bewitched and once he could not act anymore, from all accounts, Elizabeth Montgomery never saw him again and made no effort to help him out.
