This area is very familiar to me, but I don't quite recognize the shapes. Front range filthy air. Ok, I got it, you're out near the airport.
We (my dad) had 4 of these starting in about '58, the last being a '69. We loved them, but you'll lose your high end hearing because of the valve noise. The windshield washer fluid is propelled by the spare tire air... in the front. ...Those Germans... The fuel gauge has an indication of "R" for reserve. My dad called it rempty. I love the smell of an old Volkswagen. Rubber carpet. That weird logo on the knobs. What is that? a lion? A castle? Whatever...
I bought a 62 in colorado for $75, drove it to md, then to fla, & sold it for $50
ОтветитьBetter than riding a bicycle to work
ОтветитьAt legal speed a Volkswagen Beetle is a thousand times more fun than a Porsche 911 turbo or a Ferrari. Supercars are only fun at autobahn speeds over 150 mph. Acceleration in city traffic requires working the 58 bhp VW really hard, reving hard and using the gearshift. That is the stuff that gives you a wide grin.
ОтветитьI had a73 VW and it had air conditioning and a great heater. Unless you were at a stop light but if you were running it out on the highway the heater would run you out.
ОтветитьMy first car was a 73 beetle paid $1450. I had it ten years drove it daily, took it on multiple trips to Canada from SC. I finally killed it and sold it off for $500 but it was a fun car and I never really had any problems with it mechanically.
ОтветитьMy first car was my dad's Lada, back in 92.
Sure it was a Lada.
Was the only car I ever drove with mechanical steering, next one was hydraulic and everything after that was electric, all a downgrade.
So it sort of explains how I have lost the love of drivng over the years and bought a retro bike at 49.
At least they are still raw.
So don’t get me wrong I like the Beatles there cool how there designed BUT anymore I stay away from vw and Porsche due to there dark history of how they came to be in the 30- 40 don’t get me wrong they are cool but all realistically should vw and Porsche exists? If you don’t know who made vw google it and it will tell you lol 😅
ОтветитьFun fact: this car was designed by Porsche by demand of H█ler when he needed a people's car.
ОтветитьNice bug
Ответитьbeautiful bug. one of my dreams is to move back to san diego and work on and drive one of these babies!
ОтветитьI drove a 68' Beetle for years in L.A. traffic. My dad and I had rebuilt it as a 1300 instead of the stock 1500 and it got incredible gas mileage. They are great cars. However, I own 3 911SCs and they are vastly superior.
ОтветитьI wanted one when I turned 16 and tried every way in the world to convince my parents and grandparents to find me one but the latter wouldn't hear if it (they were paying for half so they did have some say so). But when I turned 30, I bought myself a brand new New Beetle TDI. Yeah I know it isn't the same but I still love it 22 years and 330,000 miles later. It's the most reliable car I've ever owned and believe me I've owned many. I still want an old one or a Karmann Ghia though ( or an old Porsche 911).
ОтветитьGreat video! Thanks!
ОтветитьWhat a history, a car from Hitler to the Hippies. No car can claim this kind of fame.
ОтветитьWater cooled 'dubs came out in 1974 with the Golf/Rabbit, Passat /Dasher, etc. Those are aftermarket gauges too.
ОтветитьWell im 18 and i got my 73 beetle for my birthday so im pretty confident its gonna be a good daily driver when i fix it up
ОтветитьIts still fast… wow
Ответить,.well if the front end's gonna crunch just drive it without the front end. Problem Solved! 🤷
Ответить..my parents had a few vw's, I've had a few vw's.
