Pocket sand, wrist control, and the understanding that you WILL get cut

The fundamental problem with all the solutions provided is that they are solely defensive based. When a knife is used, the attacker MUST be neutralized immediately. This means his attack must be met with an attack, not a defense then an attack. There simply is no time to do both. He must be stopped, immediately !! This requires professional training.

Rule number 2 : your legs are half your tall or more use them kick the aggressor and use them to keep him distance from you

Close the distance instead of falling backwards allowing the attacker to continue to get off first. Block and strike simultaneously. Sticking the attacker in the face or throat. Take control of the wrist not the weapon. Please take real self defense classes.

That said, these are excellent tips for
surviving a knive attacker.

Especially the first tip.
If at all possible... Don't be there!
Avoid high crime areas, if possible.
And most importantly, if you can... RUN!!
No shame in running if you have to.
