Back then I was either using PICO or directly piping commands into a port. For example when writing an e-mail to SMTP 😜 That leaves no room for VI in the grand scheme of things.

I mostly write in .NET and SQL for work. I write .NET in VS, but I sometimes wrote SQL in Notepad, just to make sure I didn’t mis-click Execute too early. (Then Windows 11 effed up Notepad, so I started using Notepad++, which is great except it really wants to put SQL keywords in all caps and I really hate that style, so I just stick to generic mode and forego syntax highlighting.)
