Pixel 7 Google Pay & Face Unlock Issues

that makes a lot of sense....thanks for this info. I was wondering why it keeps on prompted for finger print.

I just upgraded to 7 from my 4a because my battery was toast. This phone is a POS compared to the 4's. So much of its functionality is a step backwards. Hold 2 buttons to power off, what is this, 2007? ... It's twice as heavy, too! So disappointed*.

I actually turned off Face Unlock due to this. It's nice that it unlocks my phone, but if it's not "secure enough for apps" than it's more of an annoyance than it's worth.

I've had my Pixel 7 for a bit, and I've had nothing but bad luck with the face recognition. It never works, only when there's really good light, sometimes not even then. Only issue. Otherwise I love this phone, I just wish the face unlock was much better.

I prefer face unlock on my P4XL compared to the 7 pro. Unfortunately, Google just went with the bare minimum class-3 sensor using the front facing camera, meh. I'm using the 7pro now, it is a great phone, but face unlock is not as snappy as when I had the P4XL. I can't even unlock wearing sunglasses, and forget low lit room areas 🤦🏻🤷🏻

Ps. I miss the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone, the under display sensor, to me, is nothing more than a gimmick. There was nothing wrong with the capacitive touch finger print sensor on the back of the phone. When I owned the P2XL it was snappy and worked just fine. Why fix something that isn't broke 😑

Wished I knew about how trash it is unlocking in the dark. Since I often work in the dark, I basically have to rely on fingerprint unlock, which I already think it's trash being a screen fingerprint unlock as opposed to a rear fingerprint sensor.

The problem with the new Pixel 7 that I just received is that the fingerprint sensor is terrible and does not work 95% of the time, so unfortunately your suggestion may not be a solution.

I skipped the Pixel6 for the scanner and modem issues but I got my Pixel7 and now I can't use the fingerprint reader for any of my secure apps..... I'm highly disappointed in Google. Right now my sim card is in my Pixel4 that uses similar tech to faceID and it works like a champ. If I cna't fix this I'm going back to iphone because Android support ends this year on the Pixel4.

Something weird happened to my pixel 6 yesterday, an update become available and midway downloading it just disappeared. Seems to be a bug since i already installed the Oct 5 update. Phone be buggy with apps and internet connection after that one. Anyone with the same issue? Phone was running like a clock before.
And when is the beta version of Android 13 gonna end?

I personally prefer fingerprint to pay. I know others may prefer the face unlock to pay but I don’t think it’s a big issue.

I get that google did the right thing by not allowing a 2d system for payment. What I don't understand is how, in 2022, with the resources available at Google (human and $) and after poring over comparable iPhone technologies for likely years, it's still not there on their flagship phones. Cost savings? Not really giving a s***?

While annoying, they did say during their 10/6 presentation that face unlock couldn't be used for purchases.

There’s also a fingerprint issue P7. Many posts on Reddit about it. I had no luck with it. had to disable the Fingerprint unlock.

Technically Soli on the Pixel 4 only helped the phone determine if the user was picking up their phone (which could preemptively turn on the pertinent face ID sensors). The face unlock itself was all IR depth mapping like you'd find on Apple devices. I could live without Soli (it wasn't very good IMO), but this is a clear regression from the Pixel 4's Face ID system.

I think it might a US issue. I tried with my 7 Pro today and no problems. I unlocked it with faceID and paid at the shop here in London without any problems.

It's kind of pathetic that they use low level security for their facial unlock. I do on the other hand, love the feature. Yeah it pretty much never works in low lighting, but any other time It's lightning fast. I will say I've even had times where just glancing down at my phone unlocked it.

I always liked the capacitive fingerprint sensor more....

random question, does the base model pixel 7 have the same screen quality as the 6 when it comes to red and green tint issues that plagued last year's base model pixel 6?

I kinda understand the appeal of face unlock but I prefer fingerprint.

this for Google as whole is far better than what possibly could have happened if they allowed payments with not so secure method.

Hey mate. I just wanted your thoughts. I have been a fan of Android bets for years and I've used it on all my pixels. I've just got the new 7pro. Beta is available for 7 pro. The new has the clear calling option and some other features. Also I've noticed on my lock screen that it covers my notifications so I can see an icon but can't access or read it until I unlock and pull down quick settings. I've seen in the beta log that it's been fixed. What are your thoughts. Beta has always been good for me. Do you think I should just keep using the stable version or having a beta is still worth it. I think you still need to unlock Google pay when you open the app.

I had a pixel 6 traded for the 7 because fingerprint was awful. Unfortunately it might be time to give up on pixel as the face unlock and fingerprint in daily use is terrible. I can’t believe Google releases these phones with such obvious flaws.

I want to report an issue. Yesterday, i was using my camera and for no reason the camera crashed for more 5 times. When I click a picture the screen blacks out and the app ends automatically. Let me know if there is any work around for this issue

I only use the fingerprint sensor and have not enabled facial recognition and I have only had issues at one store where it declines every time. I have a Pixel 7 Pro.

It's frustrating that when you remove face unlock data the software thinks you have altered your fingerprint for secure log ins and they all no longer work? Why would they do that if face unlock was never intended as a means of biometric security? I dont use face unlock as you cannot view your notifications on the lock screen with go straight to home screen enabled. Its all a bit of a mess to be honest.

My wife has the pixel 7 in lemongrass and the fingerprint reader is a nightmare. We have tried every trick in the book and it works every 5th time, at best. They should have just kept the sensor on the back or gone to the power button.
