An ipad is just not a laptop. The choice of limiting what apps in the background can do is inherent to tablets and most obviously to reduce battery consumption. Imagine an ipad being as usable as a mac, the mac won’t sell anymore. If they make a hybrid in between it will cost them in revenue also.
My bet is that another company will do this first and once everyone wants such hybrid devices and their sales drop they will have to catch up. I don’t see apple as an innovative company anymore, it’s more like a quality device with only known and tested functionalities

Honestly I think that everyone uses pro for devices like this for example no self respecting "pro" would use the surface pro because in trying to be a tablet and a laptop it fails at both and also the iPad is ideal for some pros while a laptop is for others and I think that most people who have problems with iPad have problems because they try to use the keyboard and whatnot to make it a laptop which it is not and that is one spot Apple is making a mistake they need to stop pushing the keyboard and mouse experience because the touch is better this is a tablet not a laptop and Apple and consumers need to stop trying to make it work as a laptop

It does extend when connect to a monitor, I connected my iPad Pro 2021 and it was an extended screen, only problem is you can actually access it without a mouse and even with one it is very bad to control, but it still works, also idk how to switch it to extended

I went and bought one and sold it within the month. It did nothing really that my old ass gen one iPad Pro did.. and that’s the issue with iPad os.

These only work for new buyers.. people upgrading aren’t getting much but a new battery and gimmicky features.

Honestly i use the iPad standard 10th generation as my main portable computer, including for editing video, and works perfectly, i use Logitech pencil and combo touch keyboard, so loving it, very helpful for what im doing

The European Union is forcing Apple to allow side-loading on iPad land iPhone so that will fix that they will add it at some point let’s hope when they do that change it is available everywhere instead only in the country’s who force it. So soon it will be better cool.

The iPad Pro is a MacBook Pro for kids or old people. Not people who need an actual computer. If you made an iPad Pro as functional as a laptop, you cannibalise the laptop market and vice versa. If you make a laptop with a touch screen like a surface, you cannibalise the tablet market.

Simple marketing logic.

Most people are not content creators. Why is literally everyone using content creator applications (like for video editing and graphic design) as a metric for a devices usability. The world is not running on the work of content creators.

Its not even good for web browsing tbh because it doesn't allow for any installation of browser extensions. My iPad Pro is more than capable enough to run Python code but that is literally not an option. And I want the MacOs Finder on my iPad. Why is that not possible. It is running on the same chip as Macbooks now ffs...

I just bought an M1 iPad Pro. It's incredible that it has double the computing power of my old Mac Pro tower, but maybe 1/100th of the actual functionality.

Actually the M1 came from the iPad, not the other way around, complaints about the operating system are to be expected from someone that favors the other side.

BTW it is not called sideloading apps it's just called installing. We don't call it sideloading on Mac OSX it is just installing apps.

It is 2023, iShit Pro has M2 chip, 8GB RAM and we still lack full office suite that is more common then photo/video editing, while samba shares are still a matter of luck. In my case I can see the shared folder, I can access files on that folder, but I can't copy anything to or from that share. I need a Word doc from that share? I need to uploaded from the folder to google drive (yes you can do that from they iPad), and download it from drive. On top of that I can ether check my email MANUALLY .. IN 2023 APPLE! or have it check every 15 min at minimum. My 6 year old phone alert me of emails anywhere between 30s - 2 min. 15 min Apple? And that is without even touching Samba folder share and much more. How incompetent are apple engineers? Hope nobody ever hires them ever. Let's not spread this level of incompetence.

Now I want to see a review of the M2 iPad Pro.

It's a shame they don't want to cannibalise their Macbook sales so strongly.

I am not an Apple Fan, I use SP8 as my daily driver. I use iPhone 12 Pro Max just because it's video recording in low night is the best and I bought it just to record my kids moments. I am very interested in using tablet to replace my desktop, just 1 device. I tried Samsung Galaxy Note 4 8" as my daily driver back then, it had a SIM slot so I used to use it as my phone with bluetooth headset, it was my work and entertainment device, unfortunately it just died within 1 year, so as all my other Samsung devices. Anyway, I was just thinking, I know Apple should allow us to sideload apps on it, it's our device, we should be able to control. However, if I thought about it from the other angle for one minute, why not the GIMP developers port it to iPad compatible? Since it's open source, it's gonna be free on iPad so there is no Apple tax too. Just a thought, I am not saying that it's GIMP's fault or Apple's fault.

So addition of thunderbolt means i can hook it up to a Mac mini and use it as primary display when i need to work on video editing etc..and take ipad to college to take notes...noob here this will help my purchase decision ✋
