nothing is working even when it's in the C:\Windows\Media folder and I tried setting it back to default and now my notifications are completely silent

finally I can change the notification to echo fart sound

For people having problems with it being silent, move the wav file to C:\Windows\Media, then press browse and find the wav you moved.

the notification and other sounds wont play, and yes they are a wav file

For some reason mine plays back the custom sound but at about 5% of the true volume of the wav file, so it's barely audible. Any idea why it's playing almost silently and not to the same level as the default windows file?

I did customize start up sounds using a combination of this, the registry and task scheduler way back when I first got my laptop but since a windows update recently, windows 10 clean installed and now I can't get it to work again. I had to do the task scheduler again to get the sound but when I enable start up sound in the registry to click for the sound settings I have 2 start up sounds which is windows default and my custom sound that comes after it x_X

Mine works in the test window in the control panel, but makes no noise when I actually using windows… I’m using a WAV. And like I said it works perfectly when I tested in control panel but doesn’t work and practice… Any thoughts?
