Mac External Microphone not working?

happened for me now. does not work. external mic plugged via usb still not coming up on any app or area of my mac.

Wow. Spent the whole morning trying to figure this out. You would think that Apple would clearly mention this? No Sir! And googling just get people to advice you to go to System Settings and give permission to use the external microphone when its not showing up. Not one helpful suggestion till I found your solution! Thanks so much, just ordered the audio to USB. Saved me from going bald!!!

macOS Catalina here, I brought a trs to trrs converter and I'm not getting a "External Microphone" option in my System Preferences pane? Can anyone please help? Product link: Boya 3.5mm trs to trrs adapter

Edit: yeah ive tried everything, using without the adapter, restarting my machine. It is still only giving “Internal Microphone” option.

So you bought a small external soundcard. This is not a fix for the 3.5 mm microphone input.

by headphone with mic has three rings, but it appears in Output and never shows up in Input. Cannt still figure out the issue?

You never showed the adapter you used? That would help..

okay so İ have this detachable mic, i also have a headset with a headphone jack, so i used an audio splitter on the headset plugged the mic and headset in and the other end to my mac, somehow it doesn't work in my mac mini, but in my phone it works perfectly... pls help thanks 🥲

I have been searching for a solution for this for like forever now. Thank Goodness I haven't purchased an audio spitter yet, though I was almost getting it ...haha... Will try this out and give you a feedback on how it does... either ways, i have a good feeling about this...

Great video! I have two external mics with USB for my MacBook Air and I never used to have any problems. I dropped the smaller mic, and now it won't work, which is fine. But the big mic, which usually works, is now also only recognized by the computer when the computer feels like it. I don't understand it, I've tried switching out among three chords, I've tried both USB ports, turned my computer off and on again, and I'm about ready to cry or throw money at a new mic, which seems like a waste. Do you have any experience with that?

Probably the most helpful video on this issue. I bought the rode SC4 adapter with TRRS however my mac recognises this as a headphone rather than a microphone. Still don't have a fix for this issue.
