Angular Material - 8 - Icons

I don't get it, in the end why was span deleted as if we never even needed to look for the icon in the first place??? "material-symbols-outlined" is not saved into the html.

Hey in my case mat-icon is only working in app.component.html file only , in other components it is not showing icons , can u suggest something
