The Comic Book Industry is Cashing Out: Boom! Studios SOLD OFF!

I’m a big fan of image comics.

It’s funny all these Big Box store comics corps are retiring comic books.

The manga series lineups, reincarnation as a ‘something’ something..

I stay away from modern comics and focus on golden, silver and bronze age key comics...

Um...this means better distribution, better rates for creators, better marketing and better all round funding for Boom.

Why the negative spin?

There appears to be an effort, a motivation, to centralize business into mega-corporations. When business is centralized, it is easier to control or to assert power over like SBI or Blackrock. That is also a form of Socialism, like Corporatism via Mussolini, and possibly run afoul of some anti-Trust Laws. It is in all sectors, from the media to farming to who is running your apartments. There has been interesting things going on with Tractor Supply, and Oregan forcing small farmers out of business, water rights in Idaho, and John Deere.

Uh the comment about Del Rey doing manga is almost 15 years out of date now.

They went defunct back in 2010. Several series I loved disappeared because no other company picked up the license 😢

That aside, I pretty much gave up on comic books a long time ago, having sold my hardcover compilations of the 1984 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird and my 1990 Spider-Man 2099 collection (along with my Marvel books based on William Shatner's Tek War series)....mainly just to free up the clutter in my personal quarters.

Watching things that I grew up with or enjoy collapse in real time in very unsettling. In this case physical media and comic books.

It makes sense. Random House is a distributor. It's a way for them to make additional profit and gain a larger chunk of the market. It will be interesting to see what direction they take Boom!

This is why NO COMPANY and no publishing house or no comic book industry should ever allow Liberals and progressive "university activists" to infiltrate and take over their company or culture. Politics doesn't mix with entertainment or books of any sort. No industry should include WOKE LAWS OR RULES or procedures.

Find companies that want to make or do something as apposed to become rich. The former is much more likely to produce the later but also makes for a better product/service for customers.

If these companies are going to be publishing and distributing then i hope for their sake, that they are aware of what happened to Pacific Comics in the 1980's.

I might be wrong but gneon sounds like one of those people who live to work(had an uncle like that who worked until the day he died of a heart attack). However most people work to live. And would give it up as soon as they don't have to do it anymore.

What does boom have a lot is creator owned what was it value?

It was always a problem diamond being the sole comics go to, it was out dated, slow poor quality poor customer service to shops.

Why it was not foamed down on for being a monopoly is beyond me.

Random House is incredibly woke.

The fact that combining Penguin and Random House didn't give "Random Penguin" just shows how creatively bankrupt those people are.

Fox did indeed by a chunk of Boom, which went to Disney in the acquisition. Penguin Random House bought that portion out.

I haven’t been able to find out any actual numbers (yet) but all my sources say it went cheap. Allegedly, Boom had to take whatever deal they could, or face going under in the immediate future.

I remeber warching a newer video the other day talking avout how comics werent doing poorly and olaces like boom are doing great
