Great tutorial! Do you also have a tutorial (or know of one) that combines an Arduino Uno with a Sparkfun WiFi Shield? It seems like combining the Arduino's IO (instead of just a couple of GPIO pins) would be a good idea.

You missed "a trick" by switching the LED on and off and monitoring that light level change from the photo resistor on the browser.

I've always wondered, with this sort of thing, what are the security implications? If I were to say, use something like this to control opening and closing my garage door, would this be as secure as using the standard RF garage opener? Assuming that in order to hit the ESP8266 you would need to be connected to the network it is on. If you're not connected to the network you wouldn't be able to trigger this, right?

I got it to update but I keep getting error: for/exec /home/*****/.arduino15/packages/esp8266/tools/python/3.7.2-post1/python: no such file or directory Error compiling for board NodeMCU 1.0 (ESP-12E Module)
