Would you recommend 2022.3 LTS or 2021.3 LTS? I was assuming that those are both the best options as of now.
ОтветитьI swear EVERYTIME there is an update on unity the version i use has 2 errors that appear weirdly and when i try to update it just doesn't work.
ОтветитьIve been using the latest LTS and it loads abysmally slow. Im rolling back to 2022.2.11 because it ran just fine for me.
ОтветитьI'm really happy for you to hear you got your first sponsorship! You really deserve it :D
ОтветитьCongrats on your first sponsor!
Looking forward to watching you do buttery smooth ads transitions in the coming videos

i would not make use of v2022. puppetmaster is basically unusable
ОтветитьI am constantly playing with the latest version. I have some projects that I love to upgrade the enjoy the fun of fixing the breaks. However, all serious projects are restricted to LTS. I love shiny things but I won't trade chewing gum foil for months of work.
ОтветитьAs an Indie game developer, I don't see using DOTS/ECS or HDRP in the foreseeable future. I've used PUN2 multiplayer for quite a while, and it seems pretty intuitive to me. Still haven't upgraded to Photon Fusion yet (but it's probably coming soon). My first look at Unity Netcode indicated that it's not as intuitive to use, though it has some nice features (sort of like the Input System, better but not so easy to use). So, about the only thing in U2022 that I'd expect to regularly use are the URP upgrades (and I'll probably eventually get around to Netcode). Actually, the one thing I'd like to see that would make the biggest improvement to my day-to-day development is if the Unity Hub supported a list of more than 40 recent projects! The current implementation is a pain in my backside virtually every day! I'd upgrade in a second if that was ever improved! lol
ОтветитьIMO: dont upgrade at all if you are below unity 2021 in a largely developed project.
Almost feels like doing an unreal update.
Your gunna hate yourself, just dont do it.
(Also some assets now charge you to update from 2020-2021-2022)
I actually wont be upgrading from 2021 to 2022 in my already exisitng project either.
They dont really care to make the render pipelines easy to update.
Also, one thing you didnt point out is they dont back port fixes to LTS as commononly as they should, its actually annoying.
Great video btw :D
I use LTS because I rely on assets such as Microsplat and Nature Renderer, which only release versions for LTS.
ОтветитьMy experience from 2018 to 2023: the question of versions is not as impactful any more.
Compared to a few years ago when all packages were in a state of "the old is deprecated and the new isn't ready yet" and every version of package or Unity had killer bugs and missing features ( to be delivered soon, so maybe in two/three years? ), the current versions are rather stable.
Totally forgot about LOD Fade. That is one of the tricky parts about trying to stay current while working in an older LTS. Earlier I was like do I need to buy the HDRP volumetric skies asset, nope 2022 has that.
Ответитьi just started with the shiny new DOTS/ECS
ОтветитьScenario 3 I would say if your going to upgrade anyway, wait until you've released the ready product before so then you can see if it is worth it being an update to the game instead as the players have the working ready version
Ответить"life is too short to lose months of work because you're too dumb to get source control set up" Truer words have never been spoken.
