What is the difference between a smart contract and a real contract? Is the benefit just a better way of storing the contract? Does it depend on the network? What if the network crashes and fails? What is the carbon footprint of this? Olga Mack left me with more questions than answers. Which is a good thing.

Are we solving a problem in a blockchain way rather than solving it in a much simpler way. Census, renting urban land in developed countries , matching kidneys etc are typically doesn’t sound like blockchain based problems for me. For me blockchain based problem basically should root from lack of trust on the service provider. One example is real estate in developing countries like India.

In india , real estate registrations are done by the govt organisation. There are a ton of instances where people working in that organisations manipulate land records and register them to unwanted people in exchange of a bribe. Typically there is no transparency log available to verify the authenticity of chain of transactions and no way to validate double registrations.

Insurance is another sector I believe the people are at mercy of the insurance (service) provider to get the claim processed rather than defined agreement.

Probably solving these kind of problems are more impactful

It is unfortunate that she used kidney transplants as an example of a good thing. since mammals need BOTH their kidneys and should NEVER donate one of them because each of the two sides of the body is different and both kidneys are needed to filter each of our two sides. Don't believe me? Simply take you underarm temperature on both sides or take your blood pressure on both sides and observe that the readings are different on each side.

smart contract is basically an IF ... THEN function. IF x THEN do y, that is the gist of it. this is a foundation rules in software programming OR they way we do business. IF 'you give me $100', THEN ' I will give you 15 min massage'. IF 'you give me $200.000', THEN 'I will give you my house'. You get the point. Our world is run by this 'smart contract' or 'IF ... THEN ...' rules. That's basically it. This is why smart contract blockchain is going to rule the world, because our world is already run by smart contract BUT not in the blockchain. Blockchain just so that NOT ONE ENTITY controlling it. Right now, we have to 'TRUST' a person, an entity, a company, a government .... In blockchain world we don't have to 'TRUST' anyone, so it is more Neutral.

Imagine a world where providing all forms of business becomes too technical, monopolizing the entire market to big corporations.

from the technical standpoint, i don't think she has the correct understanding of what smart contracts can do and can't do. it's not a magic pill that replaces all the traditional ways of conducting a business. In fact, there are a lot of limitations and one of them being "how to reconcile with real-world events", which is very partially solved by some Oracle service such as Chainlink.

I've never seen this before and it's beautiful. These are the reasons because I love Blockchain.

So, who is designing the Smart Contracts between Russia and NATO?

I would like to here litle bit more about the details how would smart contracts/blockchain exactly solve all these problems vs just saying they can solve them. Why would this technology be much more advanced then the ones we already use for these particular examples? I believe she know what she is talking about, but I just don't see clear correlation.

I still don't understand how Smart contracts can do all these things better than the conventional technology we have today...Can someone please explain to me exactly why smart contracts can do these things? I was under the impression that this could already be done without smart contracts.
