Hands-On with Apple CarPlay in iOS 13!

and can you connect via iTunes? I assume so...

I was using Apple Maps, not Waze, and when I asked SIRI to go to a destination, I would get the response, "finding the destination" but the map wouldn't change? Is there some hidden setting (like Do not disturb when driving on the phone that trumps the Do not disturb setting that isn't set on the Carplay) or does this not work? It worked fine when I asked thru the phone: Siri on the phone found the destination and I hit go and the carplay map changed; but it would be great if I could do that handsfree if I want to change a destination. What am I doing wrong? Since there are so many moving parts as usual.

Just having my first experience with carplay and already annoyed. When i'm listening to the radio and somebody text me, the carplay screen comes up and the radio goes off. The radio doesnt come back on unless I hit tuner. Which now i'm wondering as i writ this, can i listen to the radio while in maps?

When using CarPlay with Apple Maps for navigation, I can’t find any way to display a turn list. That would be a great feature.

Still cant figure out how to use siri via carplay

Instead of saying Hi Siri, I wanna be able to rename, Siri, for say.... Baby Yoda. And have a conversation with it. I wanna store my life experiences and have Siri, ask me questions a real conversation.
And I want to be able to reprogram the car horn, to the voice of Godzilla instead of the standard car horn

how does pandora work? does that show up on the home page with apple maps too? can you use the skip button on the steering wheel with pandora, or can it only be done on the touch screen?

I updated my iPhone to 13.3 and now my CarPlay doesn’t work anymore. What can I do

It would be nice if there was a way that I could make my ringer quieter when I’m using CarPlay because I gotta tell you that when I’m cruising down the road jamming out and I get a phone call I damn near shit my pants when the ringer blows out my ear drums.

So far not a fan but Ive only had the truck Im using for a week. I do t use apple music and my sync3 can do all of this anyway so I havent figured out why anyone would want this .

I wish you could see the music lyrics on CarPlay like you can on your phone!

Carplay is simply everything I need on dash. This is the reason I still use an iphone.

the multi-tasking is a huge improvement in my opinion. I can stay in waze while searching for music on the phone.

Will the music cut out when using a third party app to play music while using maps when you get a notification?

It’s missing one big thing for me; pinch to zoom on maps. The way you move around in carplay’s version of Apple and google maps is so old school. Pushing digital buttons to zoom maps? Seriously?
Also, why is the dark mode background a weird shade of gray instead of pitch black like it was in the old version? Apple messed up a good thing here. 😩

Does anybody else not get navigation notifications when using google maps when on the spotify screen or a different screen?

I like CarPlay and am glad Apple fixed some problems and added new features. Most of the time when I’m driving I play music from Spotify. My opinion is that Spotify is better for music than Apple Music. The problem is that Apple's Siri doesn’t communicate with Spotify for competitive reasons I think. So I bought Amazon's Echo Auto for 50 bucks on Amazon. After a short installation of this tiny gadget all I had to do was to switch to Bluetooth on my Honda Ridgeline and, using Echo Auto my other girlfriend, Alexa, passes on my music choices commands to Spotify. I can also use Echo Auto to turn on and off lights, make phone calls, send and receive messages, and all the other cool things Alexa can do. So two-timing Siri with Alexa will have to do until Apple takes a more universal approach to third party applications..

Hi, I’m new to apple carplay and using ford sync3..mine doesn’t show the calendar on the homescreen. My calendar is full of events(atleast one event everyday)..its showing in the app itslef but not on the homescreen..then my turn by turn navigation in apple maps also shows that it is not available..any help please..thanks!

Sad CarPlay only support Apple Map in spilt screen mode and not google map

I used CarPlay only after it allowed Google maps as navigation. Android auto is still better. I feel like apple wasted a lot of money on a somewhat useless feature. I say somewhat because it's not something everyone needs. That "splitscreen feature" isn't needed if you're in a modern vehicle that gives you nav directions on your HUD. Your passenger won't be browsing through your phone at all times.

Anyone else notice how there is a bit of a lag when clicking on an incoming text message? Like a 3 second delay before Siri starts reading the text. The previous version was almost instant.

The CarPlay update was pretty significant to me. I drive a lot but never used CarPlay even though my car was capable because of the mirroring restriction. Now I leave it enabled all the time.

Can you get the calendar app to start Waze guidance instead of Apple maps?

In maps, choose a different layout with the icon in the upper right corner.

On your iPhone, settings, general, CarPlay, choose your car, then customize. You can change the icons around on the home screen and other screens if you have them.

my carplay has no show album art ...i have update to ios 13

I'm brand new to Apple. I really wish there could be full screen maps (with which ever map I choose) and, while in full screen maps, there could be a small music controller. Android Auto does this. I really hope Apple changes the inability to have Google maps or Wayz in larger maps screen
