Definitely the worst of the Singerverse. It repeats all of the same mistakes as “Last Stand” and “Wolverine Origins”, with horrible effects, bad editing, and a nonsensical plot that contradicts both itself and the previous movies CONSTANTLY.

Canceled sequels and involvement of Marvel Studios
In May 2016, Kinberg said that Dark Phoenix would be the first in a new trilogy focusing on the younger versions of the original X-Men characters who had been introduced in Apocalypse. It was initially planned as a two-film story, with the parts to be filmed back-to-back. However, in late pre-production the studio decided to only produce one film with the prequel cast, as new management did not want any more X-Men movies set in the past due to the reception of X-Men: Apocalypse, resulting in rewrites such as replacing the Hellfire Club with alien antagonist. For a while, it was still possible for the Phoenix story to continue in a potential sequel, with an eventual crossover with the New Mutants series based on the "Inferno" storyline, but those plans were ultimately cancelled after the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney caused the film rights to revert to Marvel Studios. This resulted in footage being cut from both the Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants films that had been intended to be expanded upon in sequels.

Chris Claremont confirmed the two-film plan and revealed that this film centers on Jean as Phoenix and the second was going to feature Dark Phoenix. According to Claremont, the film's purpose is to make the audience fall in love with Jean, while the purpose of the second was to break their hearts.

According to visual effects supervisor Greg Butler, the story was originally meant to be more cosmic, but that aspect of the Phoenix was meant for the second part of the two-film story. In June 2017, it was rumored that the Shi'ar alien race would be featured in the film, and Angelina Jolie was being looked at for a role, though she was not expected to accept the part. Jessica Chastain was also potentially being considered for the same character. Chastain herself had admitted her character kept changing, adding that she did not even know that her character was named Vuk until she saw the movie.

Chris Claremont remarked, “My problem with both iterations of Dark Phoenix onscreen, the original by Brett Ratner and the newer version by Simon Kinberg, is, I don't think you can do it effectively in 90 minutes. You can tell a good story in that timeframe, which I think Simon did, but it's not the evocation of the story that Dave and John and Paul and I created, it doesn't have the impact of knowing the characters and their dynamics and building to it conclusively in this narrative way... The challenge is, in terms of a canon like X-Men, it's more like Harry Potter and Hogwarts, or Game of Thrones. It needs time and space to evolve and to bring the reader or viewer in and give them a result that's worth the investment of that time."

Simon Kinberg stated that, if he had four hours to tell the story, he would have included the Hellfire Club and Lilandra.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was reported to have approached several members of the original X-Men cast in 2019, which was later confirmed by Patrick Stewart who was asked to reprise his role and did so in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The writer of the film Michael Waldron stated that this was an alternate version of the character but confirmed that the X-Men series was canon to the MCU multiverse. In 2020, Feige announced at the San Diego Comic-Con that an untitled mutant-centered project was in the works at Marvel Studios. Deadpool 3 will be the next film in the X-Men series.

Makes no sense

After watching the movie, i'll just drop some of my reviews here:

1. Michael Fassbender really nailed his performance in acting as magneto, especially his facial expression when his character knew that Jean killed Raven
2. It was awkward seeing Hank getting angry (for the first time) as if the actor didn't know how to become mad, or because he don't know how to develop his tone or lack of facial expressions.
3. Storm's character is supposed to be one of the powerful mutants in the x-men universe (based on the comics, i think), but it was the cheap thunder effect that made her weak the entire movie, more like thor's thunder, but on a low budget
4. Tye Sheridan is also good for the role as Scott/Cyclops, not just him and Jean had a better chemistry(apocalypse and dp), but i like his performance better in X-Men:Apocalypse rather than this.
5. The fight scene between the X-men and Jean is too short. The X-Men are too weak (i know that Jean is way more powerful than them, but they should make the fight scene a little bit longer or make it satisfying/thrilling to watch so the viewers should be satisfied) but they should add twists where the x-men is about to defeat her, but they failed at the end (smh like that.)
6. Sophie's performance in this movie is also 9/10 for me, but I wish that she should add movements/accents on her body (esp. hands) while flying, especially when having fight scenes, JUST LIKE SCARLET WITCH. But I really appreciate her performance, both Dark Phoenix and Apocalypse.

At last, I don't think the end scene about Charles' retirement makes sense. Just don't know.

Imagine if Bryan Singer directed this movie instead of Simon kinberg, the movie was ok but it just had too many plot points the story was a little messed up if they hadn't done those reshoots it would have been better it still was good, if they had just gotten a different director for this movie.

I just saw this movie on FX and it’s a Hella’ve a lot better than captain marvel which at the time they where being compared to with captain marvel obviously getting better acclaim because of Disney of course, I saw captain marvel in the theaters and it was trash. Captain Marvel over rated while Dark Phoenix was very underrated. Dark Phoenix Great movie and I regret buying into the critic which I don’t do often if at all. 😑👍🏽

some people says that we just bandwagon hate this movie but when you finally watched it, you could see and understand what are the problems. when jean wanted charles to walk, that's ableist, bro. when quicksilver said on x-men apocalypse he wanted to tell magneto that he is his father, it wasn't happened here. when raven argued with charles about the "x-women", it gained criticism from the fans and movie raters. it affects the ratings and box office gross of the movie, it became the series' most criticized movie.
