Why is Thermal Paste so important in a PC? #shorts

Applying thermal paste is full of errors. The heat transfer of a metal will always be faster without something in the middle, justifying the paste because there are microscopic porosities is simply absurd.
Not to mention the properties of the paste and its ingredients, such as glue (epoxy) made of resin and alcohol that helps increase heat, carbon that retains heat and then we have soft metals like aluminum.
In conclusion, what thermal paste does is interrupt the heat transfer between metals, end of story.

I wanna see cause and effect from actual use like gaming with and without thermal paste

I just recently learned about this despite having a computer for more than 10 years. My very old computer has lost its gpu, and I'm using the motherboard right now and I realized it's dying often because there's no thermal paste.

Now why won't cpu manufacturers use a smooth surface for their cpu casing? 🤔

Thermal paste is entirely optional, you don't really NEED it.

While i knew that we used thermal paste for CPUs i didn't know it was a thing for GPUs as well until a one or two weeks ago. Changed my GPU's 4 years old thermal paste, it fell from 86 to 73-74 celcius. Huge difference.

Has anyone ever tried just using a few layers of gold foil? Seems like it's soft enough and thin enough to fill the gaps and should conduct heat A LOT more effective than paste right?

My laptop is msi gp62m 7rd brand and i didnt reload thermal paste for 4+ year and it has gtx 1050 and intel i5 7300 hq and it has 8gb ram and it passes so many games minimum system requirements but still with lowest settings even cs go always get fps drop and even cant open google fast is that cause thermal paste?

Btw I always hate it when people use a plexiglas or glas to demonstrate the spread of thermal paste … its better to do this with mounting gear and torque screwdriver to have consistent pressure

Hey there, why my cpu temperature is over 50 degrees, when i have thermal paste?

I used to replace thermal paste with tooth paste! And there isn't any issue on over heating..

But now i back to use thermal paste..

I also use Grisly paste instead of Arctic Silver. I like AS more but my friends also borrow my gear, and I had a fry due to them doing it improper.

I also tested and I can get several of my generational builds higher after swapping pastes, after my friends became the new owners. Ceramic does have benefits in some builds.

I know absolutely nothing about computers, but what would happen if you didn’t use thermal paste but perfectly polished the cpu and the cpu cooler surfaces?

I’m just starting to get into PC’s so sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but based on this explanation it seems like another solution would be to smooth out the top layer of metal on the cpu. Like if you were to make it incredibly smooth even under a microscope would this make you no longer need thermal paste, or just less? Or would it not help at all?
