I hardly do free shipping on anything.
I run sales and take offers often. So if I had free shipping, those sales would eat into my shipping. Especially on bigger heavier items. Usually I end up underpricing shipping anyway.
I do offer free shipping on a few smaller, higher profit items that I can easily predict the shipping cost off.

A lot of buyers already have no clue what shipping costs (or fees or packaging materials costs😡), not to mention distance is already a factor in calculating the shipping price, so Florida to Washington state, etc. Is high which affects the buyers decision to buy or not as it is.

eBay charges the 13% fees( estimated), and that’s on the total amount. Then they “ discount “ shipping at around 8%. Approximately a 5% shortage. So you’re not making that profit on shipping, it’s off setting the eBay fees but not all of it.

I will opt out too because I already put a lower weight on my items so that the shipping is lower for the buyer and more in line with what I end up paying with the shipping discount. I dont want to have to go change 100's of listings.

The extra that we were getting was covering some of the fee percentage we were paying on shipping. We pay the 12-18% on the shipping as well as the purchase. So now we are going to lose significantly more, especially if we are shipping heavy items. If you sell something for $30 and shipping is $10 and you have 15% fees, you're losing $1.50 just for the shipping... which the extra dollar or two would cover. Doesn't seem like a big deal until you're paying that on dozens if not hundreds of orders

So do you research rates or just guess that a 3 pound box going to East coast is X amount for label and if going to West coast it is X amount and Central US it is X amount? So if the label ends up potentially going to cost the buyer 12.50 you actually add $12.50 to listing price and people buy yours with free shipping vs. someone who has one for $12.50-$13 less in price? I am someone who tends to look at item cost first I guess... I would end up losing money doing free shipping because I would have to spend extra time researching the different rate for east. west coast etc...for each item then worrying if I still built in enough to my asking price 😬

People are complaining, but #1 it is just a setting. If you don't like it, change it back to retail. #2 it is a reaction to customer complaints over shipping cost. Unless you do free shipping you probably have a 4.9 for shipping cost because most sellers do. In my opinion buyers just need to get used to higher shipping cost. Everything cost more than it did a couple of years ago.

I have watched multiple videos on this now. I still have not seen a message, and I still genuinely don't understand how there is any difference. It was always showing me calculated shipping rates on eBay as a buyer and seller. Wouldn't you just increase the dimensions and weight like always, to get your$? I just started selling again recently after a 6 year absence. Having to relearn a few things. I guess without my knowing it shipping was one of them. I have been showing this price from the get go and have no plans to change. Oh, once in a while i get over a little with shipping but otherwise what my buyers are paying and what my costs work out to be are pretty much the same. I think the lower your shipping costs are the quicker an item might sell. And also as a sometimes buyer, when I am looking for something to purchase free shipping does not entice me because if you add the shipping costs to the item costs, often the one with the actual shipping cost stated is cheaper. Besides, I hate "free shipping" sellers (along with the .99 auction folks) and try to avoid them if I can find combined a little cheaper. FYI, I have been a sometimes eBay seller since 97 or so, so I have been through a LOT of changes.

Wait, HELP! (w/your link)
The OPT OUT choices are confusing!! Which to pick if wanting to OPT OUT? , because last option states that; (no labels to use anymore?) we wont get any shipping discount anymore(for ourselves??),
AND 1st option says;we will "enjoy using labels and getting a discount (for ourselves?!)"..
Are they trying to gaslight us with these descriptions in how its worded???

Here is what I saw:
eBay discounted rates

1) "Offer buyers our negotiated carrier rates on all listings with calculated shipping. Purchase eBay Labels once you receive an order to enjoy these rates. Learn more"
OR
2)"Standard rates without discount
Offer buyers standard carrier rates without any discount"

- so, im guessing option 2 there to opt out?... but will lose my discounts with printing labels possibly? Makes no sense to me

Trust me Ebay is not doing this for the buyers rather than for Ebay themselves period..
Ebay sees too many sellers buying labels outside their control( buying at post office)in which they don't profit from..your example of raising price to $39 and free shipping whole others ( as Ebay wants) selling same item at $30 plus the new Ebay shipping cost at $7.50 equals to $37.50..who do you really think the buyer is going to buy from? So no it's not the same..if you remotely think this is to help the buyer or the seller you are sadly mistaken

I like your thoughts on small items, shirts, pants, video games. But bigger items, vcr, golf clubs, baseball bats are a bit harder to calculate as the shipping changes drastically from one place to another on those bigger/ heavier options. Also like was said elsewhere I always considered it part of the bigger picture such as packing materials, handling, those things.

I've never tried to get more money out of a buyer with higher shipping costs. On another note: at least three times, eBay has sent me notifications for what they refer to as "adjusted shipping label charges". Every time, there has either been an error by eBay or the shipper on the weight and/or size of the package. Yesterday I received a notice from eBay stating I underpaid on a label by $57... which is entirely false. I have no idea where they're are getting this info... try to get ahold of CS and the bot replies in circles... HOW do I get ahold of a human being in Customer Service at eBay?

I bumped my prices on about 80% of my listed items to compensate for eBay's move. I also eliminated free shipping on everything. One strange thing I noticed: eBay will not let me stop volume discounts; when I turn off the two settings for volume pricing, they are still on when I check back--the only thing I can do is reduce volume pricing to 1, 2 and 3%.

I have like a real question. Does ebay allow people to list the item as free shipping, then allow it to be sent in a flat rate box, with that cost calculated into the price of the item? Or does it go against rules somehow? Im unemployed & trying to make a buck & I keep hearing bad things on ebay, amazon etc. Im starting to think yard sales are better no strings attached. buyers may not notice a difference in shipping price if they see the sellers are from 2 different areas in the US. They may just think "they are further, so shipping costs more". That sort of thing.

This is completely inconsequential, if they reduce the cost of shipping charged to buyers by $2 then the buyer will be willing to pay $2 more for the item. There is a total price a buyer is willing to pay for an item. It doesn't matter how you divide that price between shipping and the item cost, they aren't going to pay more just because you're charging an inflated shipping price. For example if a buyer considers an item to be worth $45, you can either charge $36 + $9 shipping or $38 + $7 shipping and it would make no difference to 99% of buyers. Ebay won't even let you sort by price unless you are considering the TOTAL cost, including shipping. Under the old rules you'd pay $7 for your label, "make" $2 off the difference between the quoted and actual shipping cost, and have to lower the price of the item $2 so it is priced competitively. Under the new system you can raise the price of the item $2 since the quoted shipping cost is now $2 less. There is zero difference between $45 free shipping, $38 + $7 shipping, or even $1 + $44 shipping - in all cases the buyer pays $45,and you receive $45 less the actual cost of the shipping label. Or just opt out. This neither helps nor hurts either buyers or sellers - it just gives you more options. You've also completely ignored the fact that with this change ebay also announced a transition to cubic shipping rates, which will make more for sellers through reducing the actual cost of shipping A label that used to cost you $7 may now only cost $5, but the buyer is still willing to pay the same amount, putting an extra $2 in your pocket. How much you quote for shipping couldn't matter less. But that doesn't make for a catchy video title. Everyone just wants to complain.

Casey, when do you think eBay will fix the Bulk Label printing? I've been hounding them for almost a year and they still haven't fixed it. The supervisors tell me that I just need to look to the community for a workaround. I call BS on that since we're paying for their service and this is one of the services. Does anyone else have a problem with their labels printing in landscape mode vs. portrait? I've tried it on my Dymo 4XL and my HP Laserjet with the same results. The fourth quarter is coming up and it's going to make all of our lives more difficult if they don't fix it. I'd add photos but I can't seem to find out how. I'll email them to you. HELP!
