The tank commander saved his crew for sure, because of the turret movement, the RPG shot the front ERA of the turret, the thickest part of the tank. The ERA is seen detonating, and tank deploys smoke. The RPG hits tank for the second time, this time center top of turret, detonating ERA again. Then the smokes fully deployed and the tank is gone into the sunset. The tank remains to fight another day, after a visit to the mechanic, of course.

The T72 auto loading feature concentrates rounds into the worst place possible. Us tanks, like the Abrams store ammo in an outside box that blows upward if hit-and there is a heavy door between that and the crew compartment. Poor Russian design philosophy puts firepower over crew survival-so T72s "pop go the Weasel" and immediately kill the turret crew, and probably the driver as well. Burning to death is the worst way to go. So Smart Russians are bailing in the middle of combat, and leaving the tanks to be captured by Ukraine.
