The SanDisk is HORRIBLE, great on paper but I've had TWO of mine lose all of their data and cost me tens of thousands.

Many SSD writing speeds slow down dramatically after only 25 percent full using a buffer that can’t keep up. The T7 is an example. This seems like a very important piece of info. Did you test for this?

Why does Apple reduce external SSD speeds by around 30% ??? My Samsung T7 reaches only around 750 MB/s on Macbook M1 PRO and 1050 MB/s on windows with the same cable. Does anyone know if it's possible to reach the same speed on MAC???

The sandisc extreme pro should have been alot faster than the samsung T7 with 2000 read/ write speed.

I just watched a video that showed the 14 inch M1 pro 512g SSD speeds at 4,900 MB/s read speed and 3,951 MB/s write speed. not sure where you get this 2800 from. These speeds debunk your entire video...

I actually had a call with an Apple Support supervisor the other day regarding the SanDisk Extreme Pro (4TB was the one I planned on going for). They say read/write speeds of 2000mb/s, however I saw alot of users (specifically M1/M1 Pro/M1 Max users) complaining that they are only reaching 700-1000mb/s speeds. Apple stated that you'd have to use a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 cable between the computer and the drive in order to achieve these speeds, as the included USB-C cable can only reach 700-1000mb/s. So unless you wanna buy the separate Thunderbolt cable, the Extreme version (speeds of 1000mb/s) is probably your best bet.

make shore you got thunderbolt port not any usb c port will do should be a warning before you buy the external ssd where I found out the hard way but there still faster than a normal external hard drive but only 4 times faster and not ten times

So can I install logic and final cut on external ssd of my mac m1 and not using internal space at all? What about things like playing instruments via interface through daw with plugins? Will it affect latency compared to local m1 storage usage?

Great video! I have one question tho, i have that sandisk pro 1 tb, but it has 2000mbps speed. On my mac pro m1 16, im getting only 870...so is it the thunderbolt compatibility on the hard disc or is it something else? Cuz this one works perfectly on the PC, but on the mac is waaay slover...i can still work with 4k files fine, but like...i paid for that speed goddamn :/

The USB-C ports on M1 macs does not support the full 10Gbps speed. To make full advantage of the USB-C ports, a USB 4 drive is the best option. Unfortunately, one has to build such drives manually and the parts are so expensive. It is so frustrating to buy an external ssd for Apple silicone macs.

At an affordable rate. It seems like Sandisk and Samsung are the best external SSD. Sandisk might look cool and funky- Carry it anywhere it might not be damaged quickly etc b/c of the cover of the Sandisk SSD, but I like the Samsung because of the indicator lights. Letting me know if it's working not. Because of that I might just go with Samsung for 1TB. I am glad that I came across this video. I was confused what to get b/c I want free my computer. (UPDATE: October 8, 2022. I got the Samsung SSW)

Thank you so much Tech Gear Talk for this great great video!!! I immediately liked this vid and subs your channel without hesitation.

It seems that the CP value of Scandisk Extreme Pro is considerably great.

May I ask you a question? I am a computer idiot. I am new the broadcasting and I recently try to broadcast mobile game (iPhone 13 Pro Max) through my iMac bought in 2019. However a bit laggy sometimes and do you think adding this 1TB Scandisk Extreme Pro to my iMac would help? Thank you indeed for your valuable time to answer my question...

Hi to everybody! So I bought two SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD 1TB each for editing my photos from them. I have two MBP's, the M1 2020 and 2016 on Intel and a stationary PC.
So when I work from my M1 mbp, those drives are getting really really hot, even when idling... But when I work from my other computers, they are warm, or a bit more than warm.
Do I miss on something or I have a faulty M1 MPB ?
My other external SSD's are fine, but they are SATA, not NVMe (like those SanDisk's are).
