The Last of Us HBO: S1E6 - Joel x Tommy, Epic Monologue scene "All I've ever done is fail her"

Poor Joel man so stubborn he’s sitting there trying to fix his boots and Tommy just walks in with a brand new pair 😂 god I felt so bad for him.

I’m not prepared to watch him die again. Pedros so good as Joel.

The acting, the writing…fucking INCREDIBLE

I prefer the emotionally stunted portrayal in the video game. I know this is all the emotions he feels spelled out for the audience, but I prefer subtlety. All of this could be inferred from Joel instead of told to us. Same with the last episode compared to the game.

This scene personally hit me so hard. I almost lost my wife and son when he was born. Was even made to choose between them during the emergency surgery and sat there watching the whole thing play out
For years i suffered silently due to trauma from it. Physically couldnt talk about it but it was there every time my mind wandered or i went to sleep after certian topics being put in head. My wife will tell you this scene made me break when it came on And i mean BREAK. It was like therapy. Joel pretty much describes what id been dealing with in secret for 15 years. Im doing better with it now, its amazing how just talking and letting it out can help.

I was honestly expecting Joel to argue with Tommy with everything that happened but this is actually impacting

Going to give Gabriel his flowers too, hell of an actor and really well cast as Joel’s brother. Excited to see him more in the second season.

They made joel weak and emotional in order to make sense of what is about to happen in season 2

This is basically how Joel was feeling in the game but executed way better. In the game he tries to hand Ellie off and we don’t exactly know why and they have the big argument and he finally spills it that he’s afraid to lose Ellie. While here we get it even further that Joel feels unable to protect her and it scares him..

pedro needed to win some awards for this

If Joel considers himself deaf and not very tough these days imagine what a beast he must have been back in the early days

I really hope Abby doesn't kill him. That was the WORST choice they could've made.

Sorry but I didn't like this Joel.

I just wish that they hugged it out here. Joel really REALLY needs one. Touch-starvation is not a good combination with PTSD and anxiety disorders. Like, if they went so far as to change their dynamic for a healthier and more amendable one, then at least have that to!

I agree with a lot of comments. This was so greatly acted. I wish it was the same in the game.

Man the ones we played the game we know Tommy is a fucking beast as a survivor, he took down docens of soldiers of the WLF alone and only didn’t killed Abby because of the plot armor, Joel knows his brothers is as capable as himself was once, he is not only asking this to Tommy because is the only one he trusts but also he knows that Tommy is the only one who 100% is going to be able to make this without failure

I love this scene, Joel getting to old and begging his younger brother to take Ellie because he knows he’s younger and stronger than him because Joel past his prime a while ago.

Something a lot of younger people don't realize is it's not necessarily guilt that brings on the anxiety. It's age. It's the reflexes slowing down. The mind slowing down. It's realizing exactly what Joel said: you're not the person you used to be and you cannot handle the pace and weight of everyday life. It's got very little to do with having a hard conscience. It's mostly aging, when you realize you are going to fail in ways you never used to. And you're going to die soon.

If he doesn't win an award for his acting I will stop watching television❤

Pedro made the series so much more fuller- like I adored the game but god just the panic and terror constantly in pedros Joel makes the world so much- fuller it makes it so much more real and heartfelt it breaks me I love the series I don’t know how anyone could hate any of these actors man-

This was not the Joel that I envisioned.

I freaking love this scene and frankly the whole episode because Pedro Pascal really got to break out his A Game acting. However, one logical plot hole is that he didn’t ask Tommy or someone else trustworthy from the town with killer experience to go with him and Ellie to ensure success.

Easily one of the best scenes to be added into the show.

So instead of a heated argument like in the game joel opens his guts out… 😢

As a person who aspires to be a man, this scene really pulls at my heart.
We’re taught as boys to be tough, resilient. And often times we bottle up our emotions, and they manifest later as negative actions and emotions. We’re told we have to be strong and fearless.
It’s something we strive to do, but we’re human at the end of the day.
It’s hard to talk about things like this, you feel weak and incapable.
Not many people understand this, and that’s the sad part. Men are expected to be strong and resilient all the time, but we crack every so often. Hell, we are ALWAYS on the verge of cracking.

It’s good to see an example of a real situation where a man opens up to his brother. Where a man opens up to another person.

To all you guys out there, never feel ashamed for feeling weak or afraid. We all go, we just never admit it. It’s ok to be tough and stoic. But we all need a hand sometimes. Never feel you don’t deserve it, you do.
