Strategic importance of these units:

Within a very short time, the India Semiconductor Mission has achieved four big successes. With these units, the semiconductor ecosystem will get established in India.
India already has deep capabilities in chip design. With these units, our country will develop capabilities in chip fabrication.
Advanced packaging technologies will be indigenously developed in India with today’s announcement.

We cannot directly start with Mobile Phone Chips like Exynos or Snapdragon. But we can start with chips for TVs Appliances and Cars.

Employment potential:

These units will generate direct employment of 20 thousand advanced technology jobs and about 60 thousand indirect jobs.
These units will accelerate employment creation in downstream automotive, electronics manufacturing, telecom manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, and other semiconductor consuming industries.

Everything goes over the head.
Only understanding that electronic chips will be manufactured in India.

please also invest in R and D in semi conductor machine making so we have talent pool to make those machines in future which will take some time but atleast we have talent in house

Greate explanation, plan is good but we have to jump in and use JV to enable technology transfer from other operating < 10nm platforms to setup fabs here in Bharath ASAP!

We could use the design leverage in BLR by giving equivalent tax credits with design and enable them to setup FABS,

Also investigate and reopen the case of Bharath Semiconductor Ltd lab burning in Chandigarh that made this huge gap happen! Else we would be at par with TSMC!

We need hi-fidelity audio integrated circuits.The best tech for this should be taken from japanese and dutch.All the current chynese and taiwanese crap has ruined the sound quality.Taiwanese are better than chynese in audio,but are far from japanese and dutch sound quality.

We had semi conductor facilty in Chandigarh which was distroyed due to fire.

Why cong gov did not do anything in this field. After fire at Chandigarh ,why no new facility was made. Big question.

Good dissemination of a technical topic and an important capability for India. SCL was run into the ground thanks to inept management and decision making of ministry Babu's and lobbyists working in their own interests. This needs to change in India. The market Sir is talking about is called OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) and ATMP (Assembly, testing, marking and packaging) that India is startingvout with@ 28 nm nodes and greater. Two decades late, but nevertheless a good start. India need to invest more R&D dillars into SCL and try learning the Finfet technologies, that isn't part of this current initiative. This will allow India to tap into the important low-power and high density chip market for node geometries below 28 nm.

Also, the whole supporting Ecosystem needs to ne developed. It's a pretty big list..
