When testing 4WD, how will know that the 4WD is not working, because I guess the car will continue to work even if the 4WD has an issue. Is there a light indicator, a sign?

Hi!! Such informative videos!! Much appreciation! I am looking to buy a 2018 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium that is Silver Certified at a Toyota dealer here in Wisconsin. Should I still be concerned about the frame and the 4WD lock-up issues? I have not looked at the frame and I did not test the 4WD... this is probably a silly question. I should just have them show me & see for myself. I'm a woman prospective buyer and kind of nervous about asking the dealer after being silver certified.

I know people will bash me but after my 97 with 315k+ miles on it got totaled I was in the market for a newer one. I loved the flat face of my 97 and not really a fan of the face on the second gen and the face of the 14+ so I knew I wanted a 10-13 model. Since I don't go serious off road I got me a 2011 2WD SR5 mode with a very good used price with lower miles. Very basic but I like the old school interior and radio. I wanted as much basic system I could get. Its lifted with 2.5 inches and with 33s and wheels but that is all. Its mainly for looks, I get it, but I really liked that look of the old school 4Runner. Very good video! I was curious there was nothing on the 2WD version on this video? @TheCarCareNut

What a TERRIFIC, HONEST video! You have a GIFT for doing these! I have one QUESTION: I ran it several times, but could not understand>>Are you suggesting transmission fluid change every 60K miles? I had an '05 SR5 with 225K. Sierra Toyota in Sierra Vista, AZ was willing to flush it. They said fluid was as ink. But as they flushed, it came clean! Drives perfect! Now has 338K and 4.0 engine has never been open! 5000 oil change with Mobil 1 5W-30. Never burns oil>>Gifted it to my Grandson. Thank YOU & God Richly Bless You, Sir! Dave in salt-free ARIZONA>>Come visit>>I will take you to the Grand Canyon in my 2019 4Runner Limited with 95K miles! REALLY!

Hey, just FYI but the brakes aren't bad, you're Probably using the wrong parts...

oem is good, but you HAVE to buy the original red pads (front) & blue pads (rear) -- the budget line "AZ" pads or whatever don't last.

Next is rotors, oem brembo is fine, but I strongly recommend DBA 4x4 survival rotors & having a good machine shop turn them with every new set of pads. Combined with Hawk HPS pads (not "5.0"), this is the only car I've ever owned that can repeatedly lock all 4 wheels (kicks ABS into a panic) over and over and over again while doing 70mph on a dry road.

Just don't do that when there's people behind you, plz...

2 things. I have the limited 2010. Upgrade your whole brake including calipers. Second. Remove the x reas system entirely. It’s a stand alone unit that is connected to your suspension. Upgrade your suspension and ditch this system. One it’s expensive and two it will not show up on your check engine light because it’s a stand alone unit.

Re watched this video. I had a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. Had one side of my engine destroyed due to bad lifters. Only 46000 miles. Under powertrain warranty, but would have cost me 8000 if I had to pay for it. GMC only fixed one side. They used the same defective parts to fix it (the problem is with the spring loaded Active Fuel Management Lifters (AFM)). Did not address the other side. I didn't trust it for long trips anymore. I sold it to "revert" to old school, reliable Toyota 4runner. Don't want AFM, don't want fancy, I want something that can take me anywhere and be reliable. Nothing is perfect, but thank you so much for your maintenance advice. I hope to have m 2024 TRD ORP 4runner for many years.

I'm in the Chicagoland area and just found a 2010 4Runner 4x4 part time, auto, 176k miles for my Darling Kate. Cost $13k plus taxes etc. It came from the Boston area till this fall where it ended up in Melrose Park, IL. Very good condition, frame is solid, 4x4 works perfectly. It's a bit of a transition for her, as her last car was a Chrysler minivan, though most of her vehicles previous have been full size Dodge vans. BTW, my current machine is a 1997 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 manual trans that is in pretty good shape for its years, currently at 192k miles. Frame is still solid. Great machines.

I love these-- they're small enough to be easy for me to handle (even with ONE eye).. .and big enough for me to haul things I need- including a couple of passengers sometime.. and for offroad, on road and traffic driving. The mileage ai'nt that good-- MPG I mean-- but 18 or so ain't all THAT bad- and I won't be driving that much anyway... Plus most of the maintenance I can do- or afford to get done. And I love the look of most of them..
