You have great videos! Could this work another way around? The rear wheel of my 7 speed uniglide Shimano Sport XL steel bike from 1989 is oval. Local bike shop said they can not do anything about it. I hapend to have set of Shimano WH-RS010 Wheels with with Hyperglide hub? Can i turn it to uniglide to make it work with my old gears? Or would it just be easier to get 7 speed cassette and spacer for modern hub after I've made sure I can make wider casette fits the frame?
ОтветитьLooks fairly simple, I have a set of 7400 Dura Ace 7 speed uniglide hubs that I picked up for less than $75 and an old Shimano Sante' that I got for $20. Now I have greater cog selection in Hyperglide cassettes as long as I have the threaded cogs. Other people are going to greater time and trouble to take the hubs apart to replace the Uniglide body with the Hyperglide body, but this is easier.
ОтветитьWorked like a charm, thanks!
ОтветитьI have a 7 speed (13-21 T) Uniglide on a 1984 Trek. I want to change it to a Hyperglide 12-28 cassette (can't find 12-28 Uniglide). Do I look for a 7 speed cassette then add the lock gear from Uniglide (become 8 speed) or do I look for a 6 speed cassette then use the lock gear from Uniglide (become 7 speed)?
ОтветитьYou know shimano are some crooked bastards that did the opposite of simplify bike part compatibility. They also probably drove the prices up so high that it's the perfect industry to create counterfeits in. Edit: the dual compatible hub is a bad example of shimano complicating things, but I think it's obvious they took "a sprocket hub" and turned it into different series of bullshit. Anyway I'm just annoyed about having to study to be a bike expert to avoid the wrong purchase
ОтветитьGreat, worked really well!
I've disassembled the cassette to be more precise and convert an 8 speed to 7. Just take a metal punch tool, that will do the job.
