Hi there!

I have a really difficult time with keeping the descriptions of my job requirements and achievements from becoming overly detailed and overly proper but, I trim it down and I don't feel like it communicates fully or even ideally the information I want to convey.

Any advice? I really enjoyed your content. It was practical, concise and thorough, a trio which is often hard to find when trying to improve on your resume writing skills (without breaking the bank on classes or ghost writers).

Hey Andrew, I'm having difficulty condensing my varied work and educational background for my resume's career profile. I've been everything from a bike mechanic to a project manager at a specialized tax firm, dabbled in entrepreneurship, and am now pursuing a doctorate in Technology Policy Innovation. I also have a BS in Business Management, a Masters's in Biomedical Engineering, and experience in both wet lab research and data engineering. My key strength is problem-solving and conveying my ideas effectively. My goal is to get a new job while I finish up my doctorate part-time, but I don't know how to sell my experience for any position. I feel like a jack of all trades and a master of none. I would love a job where I can further hone my communication skills and improve my public speaking. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated!

Very useful video! Would just add to make sure you use correct spelling, grammar and spacing and check multiple times. How you write on your CV says a lot about you and how good or bad you would be as a potential employee. You don’t want potential employers to think you are unprofessional.

Any suggestions for someone who doesn't have a set career field? Every time I job hunt, I end up working in different areas. Office Clerk, Inventory Management, Quality Assurance , Crew Trainer, Wheelchair pusher, deli worker etc...

I can appreciate this advice and understand that following it is often successful for people. I also feel like it essentially proves that the people/software that are reviewing resumes don't actually read it in detail the way they should. I have several experiences of coworkers being hired/myself getting hired to jobs they or I were likely less qualified for than other applicants. If in the end those looking at application materials care more about how a resume is formatted than they do about the substance of the entire document, they're probably losing out on some really good talent just because they haven't gotten around to watching this video. A video which contradicts practically everything everyone has been taught about resume writing.

Andrew this is great information. I'm 51 and I worked most of my adult life in the healthcare industry. I recently had the opportunity to go back to school and get the education that I missed out as a young man. I have a degree in cybersecurity that I received in 2018 and I am now involved in a cohort training for Salesforce. I am not yet certified, but working on it it feverishly. The technical experience that I have is through college, an internship and now with the cohort at Merivis. My question is, how do I work that into my resume so that I can at least twinkle if I cant shine in front of the competition? Do you have a video for someone like me? TIA

Writing a 4 sentence cover letter and then to have very little to boast about at the top of your resume. I think your tips are great for people who already have an established carreer though. And I will watch some more of your videos to see if you have content there more suitable for people in my position who are looking for ways to advance. Thank you.

Hey Andrew, I'm not sure what I should put on my resume in the career summary if my old job was in the restaurant industry where I did pretty much everything without a promotion. I have gotten employee of the month there a few times, but what is the most optimal title? I did food prep, but I actually did everything too. Used to work kitchen and etc.

Andrew, what if you're not a Senior Project Manager or Vice President of Sales that increased sales by 50% or increased productivity or efficiency by 70%. What if you didn't set the world on fire at your last job. What if you just did your job. You completed your tasks on time, helped out where you could, and did what you were asked to do. That may not sound very exciting but not everyone is a Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, set-the-world-on-fire top-level executive. Maybe we don't have a list of achievements to WOW some hiring manager. Maybe we're not a high-energy achiever, we just do our jobs and then we lose our jobs because some high-energy over-achiever wasn't quite as incredible as he/she led others to believe. What do we do then?? Thanks in advance.

Just to let everyone know, THIS WORKS. I live in London, UK and it worked over here as well. I moved here 3 months ago and have been trying to find a job. With the CV I used to have, I only got 1 (!) job interview in 2.5 months of trying and then I didn't even get that job. I found this video last week, changed my CV from 2 to 1 pages, left out irrelevant stuff, made sure the first 3rd of my CV had the most important things in, added the Career profile and the keywords. I sent 10 applications last week and this week I had 7 interviews and I got 3 of these jobs!!!!!!! And all of these jobs are good ones as well, actually way out of my league as I am only a graduate with almost no experience, and these jobs are not entry-level. Within only one week this video has changed my life. I did not think it was gonna make such a massive difference, but it changed my "invitation to interview rate" from 2% of all applications to 70%, like I am sorry but this is incredible. Please for the love of God, if you are watching this video and reading this comment, just try it!

How does a person know they raise customer satisfaction in every field of employment? everyone doesn't work a job based on statistic. For example a security officer, its pretty simple greet, assist residents, deter crimes, secure facility. There is no fancy way to glorify the employment how can we glorify jobs that are basic labor.
