So I tried playing FINAL FANTASY XV In 2023...

FFXV was always a decent game in my opinion, not very good but not bad either. Royal Edition is a nice upgrade but still not great.
I'm glad SE redeemed the series with FF14, FF16 and FF7R though, I feel like the series finally got great again.

This game was mad fun when it came out, shame they bungled the execution to an extent, and had to try and fix it haphazardly with the DLC. And it's a double shame we only got about half of the planned DLC. Two minor things I loved were the campfire mechanic, and the pinball minigame. My old man's got a couple thousand pinballs, and I've been exposed to them since the 80s so...

I heavily fucked with Comrades, the community wasn't very large but it was a damn good time. I think I spent a few hundred more hours in Comrades than I did in the base game, funny enough. Last time I booted that up was about a year ago and there were still a handful of players, did it actually get shut down recently? I still have the standalone Comrades installed on my PS4, but I just cancelled ps+ since I haven't used the thing in a few months and it was about to renew. I would really like to play a bit of that game again, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's shut down at this point.

Soz, homie. It was bad in 2016, and it is still bad in 2023. Nothing about it was cutting edge then, nor interesting for that matter, when it released, and that fact remains true to this day. Is the royal edition better than the launch product? 100% yes. What does that tell you? that the game released, AT FULL PRICE, while being just awful. They used those funds to "fix" the game the KNEW was buggy and incomplete, and relied on their fans to fund the fixes. That is about as scummy as a company can get. Gone are the days that squeenix released a good game. we are now offered cash-grab titles that offer no narrative and release in alpha states, for full game cost. we are being fleeced, folks.

sorry i have to say this but to me, ffxv had WAAAYYYY more negatives than positives that my overall impression turned out sour. i think my biggest gripe has to be it requiring a 2 hour movie and a 5 episode ova in order to understand some important story elements and even then, the game was still left unfinished due to them relegating the rest of their very necessary dlc to a book.

i give you props for trying to play that in 2023 though.

I play this one when it came out and also the reason I brought PS 4 just for this game! This is my fist FF game and it give me heartache! I wanna play it again but in PC! I still have my PS 4 and I want to visit and see all my achievements there! I havent play Iggy and Ardyn DLC yet.

Had no interest until I played the 7 remake - then I played XV royal on ps plus collection - I deleted it off the hard drive and ordered the royal disc on eBay - it’s dope . I’ll play after I complete 7 remake part one.

If you want a clear example of Robbie Daymond's range:

a) He plays Prompto in FF XV, the cheery chipper always-smiling young jokester
b) He plays River Ward in Cyberpunk 2077, the gruff, jaded cop who's trying to be the last honest man on the force

Not only are both characters believable, they SOUND so vastly different, it's so wild!

XV is an amazing game.
Shame we will never get to see it complete.

Bar none in my opinion best musical score in any FF game. Gives me chills hearing the boss music.

Its an average game. Awesome stuff got left out. But most of all it just WASN'T worth the 10 YEAR wait, and the DLC's should have just been part of the main game from the outset.

It actually was the depressing moments of FF16 that made me wanted to retry FF15 and it was a blast! I didn't like the game that much when it was first launched because I thought the companions were too goofy and the story was a bit short of context. Much thanks to the dreadful storyline and lifeless moments in FF16, I now find FF15 has climbed its way from a 6/10 an 8/10!

Square Enix had the right idea with the game/movie/anime idea except they did it backwards. They should have launched the game first, then anime, then the movie and the plot should've all been in the game and not split across everything.

Lame Jpop character design for a "game" on rails. Whatever happened to letting the player play? This was everything wrong with Squares current approach. Ugh.

It’s better than 16 i say. 16 got boring mid game

FF XV can't get enough hate imho. The gameplay was absolutely terrible, it basically played itself (including bossfights that are more FMV than gameplay). The story made no sense without looking at the movie and reading those sub comics, whatever. Who enjoys making food at a camp, holding buttons down during combat (WTF), riding in a car ON RAILS, empty horribly done open world, laughable side quests. The only final fantasy worthy moment was the Ifrit battle, and even that got way too much cutscenes. The RPG mechanics got dumbed way down, and the "fantasy" part is gone with this game (PHONES WTF). The characters as a team were not fun nor enjoyable (where is the rable that was IX? Now that was a unique ensemble). No, as a final fantasy fan, this is not a final fantasy (and i think XVI sucked too).

That's so funny, I also soured on it afterwards. I bought it, loved it despite its flaws, played through it and platinumd it, I was allllllllll about it. Then the DLC came out and I couldn't be bothered even though I understand what they add to the game and story. Once all of it came out, I bought the royal edition, fired it up, and didn't even make it to Altissia again before hating the experience and turning it off. Still to this day I have not played and beaten the DLCs though I have watched clips here and there so I have a rough idea of their flavour.

actually ffXV is great, just that the protagonist noctist stands like a hunch back and he doesn't look strong, other than that everything is great

I'm always glad when people love a video game, especially a Final Fantasy as it is one of my favorite (if not my favorite) series. That said, FFXV is the first time I have not enjoyed playing a final fantasy game. I bought the Royal edition but never went back to play all of the content that was added. I hope more people try out FFXV and get into the series. but for me, FFXV left me very unsatisfied.

Once you best the game you can replay it with Chapter Select almost like a "New Game +"?

The components were great - amazing soundtrack, really enjoyable gameplay, the base of a really compelling story. The execution though was diabolically bad. The world map was small and not varied enough, just felt there was so much on the surface but digging in it was a very shallow game

alot of peoppe dont know you can play as the other characters now and switch mid fight between them, literally gave the game a whole new experience for me playing through as iggy. i really wish i had a chance to play comrades when it was alive it looks fun.

Game is ok, just remake in Unreal, and have all DLC (even the cancelled ones), I will buy again. Luminous engine is just terrible.

I also tried playing FF15 in 2023, I can’t get into it, you spend an absurd amount of time driving around, but can’t drive off road, and then running, but your guy gets tired and slows down every 15 seconds, it’s too annoying

combat was fun but ardyn helping you throughout your journey for absolutely no reason is why the story pisses me off. i can't recommend this game for this fact alone. the story makes 0 sense!
